13400, More boost???
Posted by esi420, Jan-13-02 04:20 PM
I just ordered the HRC stage II and I also ordered the howell bottom end kit.

On the HRC website, it says they added a fully programable fuel system and a bigger ignition amplifier to run higher boost.

Can somebody explain what parts/controllers I need to have a fully programable fuel system?

Any suggestions appreciated

Thanks

I guess noone knows, so Ill just call HRC

For the programmable fuel system you could use a Accel DFI and for ingition a MSD DIS-2 or a Crane Fireball HI-6DI2 system.

So you just spent about 4g's on modding your car all at one time? WOW!!! Must be nice!!!!!!!!!!

Any more info on the Accel DFI? I see it runs around $1500 if Im not mistaken

What about injectors, fuel pump, and a FP regulator(I hear the one with the kit isnt the best)?

I plan on getting an S-AFC and a Profec-B, but I dont know what size injectors to run.

If I have the S-AFC, can I run 550cc injectors?

What I really need is someone who really knows their sh@& to point me in the right direction like "get these injectors and this pump along with this controller and you will get X HP and X Psi of boost"

Can I get over 300HP??

Sorry about the long post, but I need to know this
Thanks guys and gals

Derek

all that stuff depends on how much boost you want to actually run. 440cc's will work for 15psi with the S-AFC. you will need msd or something. but if you want the 15+psi range you will need the bigger injecters. i think hrc uses 640cc's and something to control them. acell dfi, haltech 36k (or whatever). bottom line is your bottom end could be bullet proof but our car wont take anymore than 10psi without blowing up due to lack of fuel. good luck....BOOST MAN..BOOST

As far as the regulator goes, I would go with the Vortech S-FMU. It can be adjusted using calibration disks to whatever rise rate you want and it seems to be extremely consistant.

I would recommend the MSD-dis2 ignition based on many things I have heard about it. I don't have one yet, but I will in the near future. The main reason you need this is not for the ignition amplification (although that is nice), but for the ability to control the ignition timing. When you boost higher psi, you need to retard the timing to avaid detonation.

For injectors, you have to make that decision based on how much you want to boost. I know that when you get into the 640cc+ injectors, it becomes tough to keep you car running smooth at idle without the accel dfi, or the haltech system. 440's are sufficient for 15 psi with the s-afc, which I would estimate being near the 300 HP mark.

Damn it must be nice to be able to throw down that kind of cash in one sitting. I've been trying to get where yer going now for about 3 1/2 years. Oh well, I'll get there someday :-)

I have the Walbro HP pump, Bosch 1:1 fpr(Hahn), and 625cc injectors(Hahn) with the Accel DFI(Hahn). Along with everything else, it should be good for 400+hp and 20+psi boost. The motor for all of this has a 95 fuel rail on it, which I was told makes the fpr obsolete. I still need to verify this with Hahn though. I also am using the Crane Fireball ignition system with boost based timing retard. Hope that helps.

$1500 buys you the 1:1 reg, 625's, and Accell DFI. That is your fuel system if you want to run real boost. I have it as well as Greg who has the same damn setup I do now and will enjoy it tons once he gets evertything sorted out. That is the Stage IV fuel setup. Get the Crane Greg has and be sure to specify the 3-bar map sensor.

There is your setup. It will only make as much power as you are good at tuning, but it can support up to about 450bhp.

I am looking at a set of 450 injectors. Along with the S-AFC, you said I could run 15 psi. Is that pushing the injectors to their limit for flow?

If I only want to run 15 psi, all I need is an SAFC and injectors, or should I upgrade the pump and regulator as well?

For the guys with the Accel DFI, are your cars still streetable(i.e. idle)with all that horsepower?

THanks

Have you read over the info here:

Helped answer some of my questions for different fuel system configurations.

Well my setup isn't in my car yet (3 weeks and counting), but before I took the other car apart, it idled fine. Didn't drive it 'cept up my driveway to be taken apart. Murix, do you have the 96-up fuel rail in your car or the 95 model? Guy said with the 95 fuel rail I wouldn't need the Bosch fpr. Any thoughts?

Thanks 99GS, that page helped a lot. I understand math really well, so that put it all into terms I understood.

After reading that, I'm going with 450cc injectors, a Walbro 255lph hi pres. FP, and a Vortech FPR along with an S-AFC. I came to these calculations using a HP of 300 and 15psi. The FP at full boost would be around 75psi

Does this sound like a good choice?

Also, I can get a set of 4 used 450cc injectors for $60 shipped. They have 52k on them, should I buy these or just buy new ones?

Thanks for all the help guys

I think the 440cc (never saw a 450 - is there one?) is already proven to be able to handle 18psi on pump gas and probably around 22psi on race gas. Anything more than that I would question its reliability. I can be talking out of my ass since on the race gas as it is only theory based on what I used to run on pump, some basic math, and what I have seen others doing, and I have never actually tried race gas. Blkout runs 18psi on this fuel setup and I ran 18psi on smaller injectors.

The Accell is absolutely streetable. In fact I prefer how my car runs now compared to how it ran before. Of course I failed emissions, but I can sort that out easy.

Greg, I am using the 97 fuel rail, ie stock. I have not replaced anything in my fuel system except the FPR, injectors, pump, and the accel and it is doing quite fine.

Make sure you are getting saturated high impedance injectors (12+ ohms). The GS-T and TSi use low impedance peak-hold injectors. Also, I would buy new injectors. That way you are assured that they will flow exactly how much they are supposed to. If you want to go cheap, buy Ford/Chevy injectors. 42 lb injectors are about 441 cc/min. Summit has 8 for $440. Split the order with someone and you've got 4 440's for $220 (they are $366 from RC Eng.). Or buy 4 used injectors and pay RC Eng $25 apiece to clean/balance them.

Cool, I may get those Chivy injectors. What is this about the 95 fuel rail being somehow different? I have a 95, so I guess it matters eh?

Murix, you have run 18 psi on pump gas? What kind of numbers did you have?

Oh, one more thing(sorry guys). What lph is the fuel pump that comes with the HRC kit?

Thanks

Only dyno I have is 14psi which was 264@5600rpm when my clutch slipped. I have always had one problem or another in the very few chances I have had to hit a dyno. I think I can actually say it will hit a dyno in Feb and be 100%. It is difficult working on a car in another country so I am getting help this time.
