hey, that heading sounds funny now that I think about it...
anyway, I've been searching for this info on the net and all I keep finding is junk, so maybe you guys and gals can help me out
what is the purpose of "retard" when boosting? This means retarding the ignition, yea? How does it work?

it means delaying the occurance of spark so that it occurs further into the compression stroke. am i right... AM I RIIIGHT?

No, its compression stroke. Combustion is after the spark has went off.
