13159, AN fittings for S-FMU?
Posted by JasonESi_T, Jan-09-02 08:52 AM
I just received my S-FMU, and was somewhat concerned beforehand, but now I realize it is something that I should be concerned of. I don't have any hose barbs from which to connect my fuel lines into -6 AN fittings. Currently, the lines are connected into 1/8" NPT male fittings w/ hose barb into my old HRC FPR.

I've looked in Summit Racing's catalog and see they don't have any female to female NPT to AN adaptors, so I'm wondering what all of you used?

Thanks in advance!

Try Earl's fittings, or your local hardware store. http://www.anplumbing.com/
13161, One more question (actually a couple =-)

I've checked there Dino and hopefully I'll find something that suits me. What did you use for your fittings, if you don't mind? And are you STAR guys using typical high pressure fuel hose found anywhere (as HRC people do)?

And lastly, for anyone with the S-FMU, I took it apart to check it out, and was wondering, does the 3.62" disk require that largest ring inside of it or no ring at all, b/c I forgot if it did after taking it apart :-( ?

Thanks!

Not sure but i will be taking mine apart tomorrow to put in the larger spring and the 2.72 disc.

I had the same problem when I was installing mine with the fittings, Earls didn't have anything that would work right off so me and the guy at the parts place rigged up a couple of the Earls fittings to make it work and it works fine. It is close but it works.

My FMU came with hose barbs attached. I don't need anything special. I use regular 100PSI fuel line with hose clamps.

Got me.. i use the stock regulator to set my idle fuel pressure ;-)

go to http://www.parker.com
search for stores in your area. they make industrial hydraulic fittings. It's what I've used for all my fuel fittings i've needed.

Thanks for all the help guys.

I found some workable fittings(Aeroquip) from a local parts store.

They included a compression type fitting to sleeve over teh standard fuel lines, creating a nice seal. They screwed nicely into my 6 AN fittings. There was also a 1/8" NPT guage fitament to go in line with one of the fittings.

It appears I need to change out the static spring for the idle pressure, b/c I can only idle at 40 psi right now, but otherwise it works so much better!

I was faced with that problem last Christmas (2000). Now you see how hard and expensive it is to get AN fittings! I never seen AN fittings until that day I was hooking up the SFMU for my turbo kit. And trips to local auto stores were futile. The people there were like "WTF is that??"

argggh

Yes, I agree. ONly one part store in town had them (luckily). Cost me about $8.00 for each of three pieces. Two compression 6 AN fuel line compression fittings and one NPT inline guage adaptor.

I also changed out that static spring and my car runs a LOT better. I feel more power up top and the fuel pressures are noticeably MORE stable.

Again, thanks everyone for the helpful responses!

Jason,
What disc did you end up using?
Yesterday I put in the 2.72" disc and the larger spring and I still can barley get 50-55idle psi with the static screw all the way down.
oh yeah the larger disc that was in there did NOT have a ring with it

>Jason,

I used the 3.62" (the largest one) washer with NO DISK. That one provided a high enough (almost too high) fuel ratio under boost.

Don't turn that baby all the way in as the instruction warn you, you could damage the diaphram internals.

To effectuate your idle to the correct 47-55 psi range, you change the SPRING, not the disk. So if you're running the stock injectors (as I am), use the largest washer for the correst boost ratio(~7:1), and change out the spring that sits on top of the blue diaphram to the shorter one(it's also slightly darker colored) that comes with your S-FMU and was not previously installed. The tallest one will not raise your idle high enough.

Right, I realized that the 3.62" washer didn't require a ring after calling Vortech.
