12916, Making my GS boost better. Posted by dSTARm619, Jan-01-02 10:42 AM
What suggestions would you make to make a GS go faster with a Star 2 kit turbo? I have a Stage two star kit but im not really satisfied with the performance yet. Its way faster than before but I want more. For all you guys with a Boost Controller did it really help out? I'm only pushing 4 psi because of my intercooler dropped the pressure. Please help me how to put up my boost. And what are you psi settings??

Exhaust system 2.5inch minimun if you don't have already. MBC $50-100. Boost to 7 psi.

will 7 psi be safe??

Yes it should be safe. I've been running 7psi on my stage 1 w/starion IC for 7months. On your kit did it came with the inline fuel pump?

whats the star wastegate set at? 5 or 6 lbs? run the wastegate signal hose directly off the intake manifold to make up for the intercooler pressure drop.

Yes, I have a walbro 255lph fuel pump and a vortech fmu.

Do you have a HRC or STAR Spin_Daily????

Sorry one more question when you boost it up from 4 to 7 psi did it really make a dramatic difference in horsepower and the feeling of the car?

haha your stuck in the same boat as me, I need a boost controller too. :)
Does that really work plumbing the wastegate to the instake manifold? Where does the one on the turbo go them? Or is that that delta mode the manual is talking about. Anyway just get a boost controller, I'm down to 4psi now also thanx to the intercooler.

cap off the nipple on the compressor, or else ull have a boost leak. u can get the caps at discount auto for like 97 cents for a box off 3

You'll be amazed what 3psi can do.

I can discern a big difference from even 6 to 7.5 psi. Beware guys, when it gets cold, theoretically, you should richen up your mixture b/c more air molecules can be compressed in the same amount of area in warm weather thereby creating a larger demand for fuel.
Since our injectors are already being taxed to their upper limits (as well as any walbro fuel pump at "high" pressures), increasing boost might be something you want to be careful with.
Put it this way, I would be cautious in taxing the stock fuel system with anything over ~230-240 @C/HP with either turbo.

like they said check the number on the westgate to see what srping you got.(might have the 5lb spring and that is why you are running less) then you can connect the vacuum hose directly into the intake manifold and not into the compressor like it says to do. (it does work!)
and if you want to spend some $$ buy a boost controller. just don't get boost happy.
and lastly.. YES you will notice the difference.

Well on my wastegate their is a sticker that says 7. Is that the max boost I can push it to? If I want to put up my PSI will I have to get another wastegate that goes up to 10??? One more question, if I take that vacuum from the intake turbo housing and connect it to the intake manifold what will it do?
|
12934, RE: Making my GS boost better. Posted by Spin_Daily, Jan-02-02 11:04 AM
7 just means you have a 7lb spring in the wastegate. which will allow you to boost only 5lbs psi w/o a boost controller. You dont need another wastegate for awhile, just get a boost controller.

Just tighten your spring all the way down. If you're just boosting 4 lbs like I am you won't need a boost controller. Your wastegate won't start openning until it reaches max boost. Unless you are boosting past 7lbs then you will feel a difference in 7lbs w/ bMBC and 7lbs w/o MBC. I'm sorta stuck in the same boat as you guys - Had a stage I and it ran great - instant boost!...then I gotta Starion I/C and no more instant boost. I got most the usual turbo upgrades exhaust and wires. Exhaust ups the boost but more importantly spools faster and the wires made it smoother. The only thing I can think of is ignition - but I'm not paying $300 for a MSD. I would get rid of my intercooler and switch back to stage I but It looks so damn good with the I/C with my andy's front end.
