12867, problems with hrc kit... Posted by toykilla, Dec-31-01 07:20 AM
I have blown holes in both rubber elbows. And I have gone through 4 gaskets because the bolts keep falling off that holds downpipe to the turbocharger. Even with locktight they fall off. Anyone else having these problems?? These are the only things giving me problems with my car now and its pissing me off because I hate doing the same thing over and over!!!

Hmmm....not that this is helpful, but I had one of those bolts loosen after my initial install. Tightened it afterwards, and never a problem since.
Perhaps keep trying or try some new bolts?
Persevere! :-)

go to your nearest a/c parts store and get some leak lock. This is better than locktight. this stuff is meant for high pressure but will hold any bolt together....

I've blown off one of the bolts that hold the turbo on the exhaust manifold:-) I guess this kinda stuff just happens when ya start fixing up your car

Its funny you said that. I got up early today to tighten my bolts that connect the downpipe to the turbo. I just got in last night from a 200 mile trip at about 8pm and I noticed an exhaust leak. I look under the hood and I was missing one of the three bolts completely and the bottom one was really loose. The only reason the bottom one didnt fall out was because it was being held up by the downpipe. I tightened it up but now I need to buy another bolt for the spot where one fell out. Any one know what size bolts they are? Is there a number or something so when I go to thew store I wont have to buy like 5 different ones.

I would also look into silicone elbows. That will cure the ripped elbow issue. It did for me. They are pretty cheap really and look nice anyway.
