Since i'm rebuilding i have a question. I know 8:6 is the recommended piston for being turbo'd but would lower than that not be good? Cause i was looking at the head gasket at www.ttiracing.com and they say it lowers the compression by 1 point. So 9:6 becomes 8:6.
So should i just get a 9:6 and the gasket? Or get the 8:6 and the gasket? Which would be better? i'm thinking of getting the 9:6.

Also other than the dealer, where can i get good gaskets for my rebuild? Cause i'm going to need more than what comes in the bottom end kit. Would autozone, pepboys, ect. be good enought?? or are there better places out there?? Cause i want to get the best gaskets i can for this.

I talked to two performance shops about that headgasket. They said if I really wanted to do it that way its my choice but they didn't really recommend it. One shop said they use mainly mitsu gaskets because they conform better than aftermarket ones. They say mitsu ones seal better and they have a 1g awd that has gotten a few 9 second 1/4 times. They are rebuilding now, looking for eights. I trust what they say so I will probably get the 8.6 pistons.

stick to conventional wisdom and what works... stock metal head gasket and lower CR pistons. lower the better. go with 8.6:1 or lower if u plan on runnig MAD boost. maybe even 8.0:1.

I heard copper gaskets are ultra strong and you can get em in different thicknesses to change your compression. Don't remember where you can get em though.

did you read that post from afx about detonation? You can run whatever compression ratio you want as long as you don't detonate, that's bad news if it does. So supposedly you wanna run X amount of boost on pump gas (91 ocatain). As long as you don't set it off before the spark does you'll be fine. So erm ask peeps with built engine what their running and if they detonate or not. Your parts will be stronger but how much repeated abuse from detonation and stuff is another thing you wanna think about.

Haha I'm running 4psi right now so makes me wonder if I should be using high octane.
