Sounds like it's time for a tranny rebuild. My car did that, lets just say it cost me some cash.

yeah sounds like your syncros are bad. Hehe don't know if it'll help but change your tranny fluid or top it off.

Shouldn't this be in the performance forum? I don't think it has anything to do with turbos?

WEll its in the turbo forum because of the fact that im runing 30psi of boost..and didnt know if there was some sort of special tranny fluid/syncro/or any other type of information that i was not aware of..

Don't bother rebuilding the tranny. It's not a cost effective solution, considering you can get an entire tranny from the junkyard for a third of the cost of rebuilding the one you've got.

But, yeah .. sounds like dead syncros. dead syncros=dead tranny. Sorry, bro.

Mark, just search around and find a used tranny with low miles at a junkyard or somewhere, but it, take the car to poff's transmission in georgetown, take him the tranny you bought, and tell him you want to put the clutch and pressure plate on your old tranny on the new one and have it installed, shouldnt cost that much really... my dad just had tranny probs with his bmw and it was 3k to fix...

My advice is if your planning on running 30psi and want to be able to handle the power that can create I wouldn't just put another stock tranny back in. Just IMO. Would look for some other alternatives, are there not any shops like TRE that offer built up tranny's for the RS/GS's.

Seriously, if your running 30 psi your just going to keep eating trannies. Why dont you just rebuild that one with some heavy duty parts?

If you can get your engine to run 30 psi you should be able to rebuild the tranny.

The tranny can hold the boost. I just think it decided to go. Do you have high mileage? I have the exact same problem RIGHT NOW though. I never told anyone about it. It developed a month ago when I was home and on only 15psi. 4th and 5th gear are replaceable. The first 3 would mean a new tranny. I will let you know the total costs when I see it as I have a certain friend who keeps my car when I am gone checking it out for me.

So 4th and 5th are replaceable..thats great news. Just let me know when you find out, Id really appreciate it. Oh by the way..my car only has 25,000miles...20,o00 of which were non-turbo.

Well, Since I am the one doing the work, I guess I will shed some light on it. :). you probally hav esome sludg ebuilt up in yoru tranny, starving 4th and 5th gear bearings on the input shaft for oil. they ar ebrobably destroyed by now. What you need to do is IMMEDIATALLY take your tranny apart and see what the deal is exactly. prolonged driving with that problem will only make it worse. you will need all th eregular equipment to remove a tranny, plus a hydraulic press to remove the gears from the case. the problem is probably caused by bad tranny oil, not misuse. make sure you put brand new chrysler/mitsu tranny oil back in it after you fix it.

bring it on............

yeah, but should a car with 20k on the tranny have that happen? Well, i guess it would be a good assumption cause he has an aftermarket clutch of course for that kinda hp so maby the shop used shitty tranny fluid or something when they threw in the new clutch.

My tranny had less than 4k miles on it after a quaife/clutch install.

your tranny also had redline it in for a good while. btw CALL ME IMMEDIATELY if you want your car to run again. VERY urgent.

bring it on............

Ouch... That doesn't sound good.

Let me know how it goes, Chris. I want to know what to expect when it's my turn.. Happy New years, too, bro.

Send me some Red Bull Syrup, too.

4th and 5th gear are gone. Used trannies are cheap. Cheaper than buying the parts new anyway. We are looking at buying a sohc neon tranny and using it as a parts donor. That would also give me the 3.55 final drive and .072 5th gear vs our stock 3.94 final drive and .81 5th which will allow better cruising in 5th, higher top end, and hopefully more traction through the rest of the gears. We will see.

Everything has been held up by snow though. What the hell is it doing snowing in the south?! It is a conspiracy.
