12499, Newbie rebuild question.. Posted by pocotheeskimo, Dec-20-01 04:08 PM
Hello.. I was just wondering what people's thoughts are on the Howell rebuild kit .. i'm new to the whole 420a scene and was wondering what people with HRC/Star kits experiences with the kit were. also.. what are peoples thoughts on the B&M short shifters? I'm s orry if these questions have already been asked.. i searched but could not find the answer =). thanks.

I have the B&M Shifter. Although it was more expensive than some of the other options for shifters that are out there... I am happy with it. It raises the shift point up and produces a 35 or 50% reduction in shift throws (you can pick). A LOT of the guys on the board just have the stock shifter cut down in length. Hurricane_GS can do it for 40 bucks (I think this is the correct price). While you are in there replacing your shifter, you should buy the Symbroski (SP?) shifter bushing kit from www.machv.com I think EVERYONE agrees that the kit is WELL worth the money.
In short: - I like my B&M Shifter...but I can't make a comparison to other shifters. - Buy the Shifter Bushing Kit from www.machv.com.
Hope this Helps, Tim

I got the howell kit.most of it anyway(bought HRC pistons cause i didn't wanna wait 3 weeks and they had 8.8:1 comp w/c i liked)It's like any other rebuild only slightly cheaper and more convenient cause you get most o' the stuff at the same time. But like they say, wait around for the stroker kit.Wish they had it when I blew mine.
