12379, Thinking about turbo-ing my car again Posted by Stan2gnt, Dec-18-01 11:51 AM
I would love nothing better than to throw a heap of money into the VW after selling my car but the thought of having two fast cars has been running through my mind ever since I got the damn VW. I didn't plan on going crazy with the VW anyway and most of the mods are cheap ($200-300 chip, $400 exh, $200 intake, $250 carbon fiber engine cover. $170 springs, $300 aluminum dash kit, $400 struts ect). The only thing that might get sacrificed are the damn 19" wheels I desire so much (the stock 17"s are pretty good looking though). I'm gonna see how many mods I can put on the VW by the end of january (I should at least have it dropped in a wk or two followed by an exhaust soon after) and if it looks like its coming on to my satisfaction I may just build a backyard turbo. With a daily driver I got forever to peice together a turbo kit. Fuel pump is still in the car, shit a turbo manifold will be the most expensive part of the whole damn thing (the turbo will naturally be a $200 junkyard POS). Damn I'm starting to excite myself!!!!

In the subject you said "AGAIN", which leads me to believe you are going to turbo the Talon (since that is only car I know you have turbo'ed and still have)... Am I reading this right?

A turboed VR6 is a >very fast car.
Un uh. I mean re turboing the talon. The VR6 is already fast. All it needs is a few bolt ons to run 14s (so they say). It damn quick off the line but could use some top end power.

Funny how that happens, isn't it?

Oh ok, I thought you were turboing the golf. That talon just doesnt seem right NA after driving it with 10psi. If I had to get rid of my turbo kit I could never drive my eclipse again. It would feel so slow. And I would miss the BOV whistle and the sound of the turbo spooling up. Turboed cars are music to my ears.

Wish you had your turbo back dont ya Stan? Well Im enjoying your turbo to much. Boost Controller is on and is set at 6 psi now. Lots of people trying to race me w/ shitty cars like a stock V6 Accord last weekend. What a waste. Figured Id update u to let you know I didn't blow my car up yet. Hope everything is going good and let me know when your sending A/F and other BOV... I still haven't put turbo timer and AFC on yet. I need to get that shit done. O well Ill update u later peace -Dave

cool forced induction is the only way to go hehe, the turbo type in particular :)
Hehe I saw a 2nd gen supra in the junkyard one time and it had the turbo intact and it was pretty big, I think you should grab one of those badboys. I saw a turbo off of a mustang that looked as big as my T3/T4 too. Hehe pretty cool what you can find in a junkyard :)

Yeah Dave I still got a few things to send you (stage 1 pipe, HKS BOV, plastic thingys for the dash, AF gauge). My car is like yours before you went to the muffler shop. Open exhaust to I get a downpipe. I may send it out today if the bastards would give me my car bask. went to pick it up again yesterday and they had a splash cover to put back on. I'm gonna get it today though.
>hey stan, dont u have high compression on your talon? > >why not build an all motor beast?
Everything Dave said. There is no joy like the sound of a turbo spooling, BOV poping off and heads turning as soon as the turbo starts to whistle. Plus retroactively its even cheaper than NA. I could turbo it for the price of removing and porting and polishing the head alone. All I need really is a $150 FMU, $60 oil feed T and line. $5 junkyard drain line (SVO/T Bird have perfect bendable aluminum drain lines that fit any T3 or T4 garrett), $5 oil pan fitting, $100-200 T3 turbo, $40 air filter, whatever a manifold is gonna run me, $30 downpipe flange and have a downpipe and intake piping fabricated. heck might even splurge for an RRE griffin intercooler. Everything else is misc and next to nothing out the pocket. Course until you've done it the right way (had a kit) it doesn't seem so easy.

Shiyat... I do have a core motor coming my way... might as well backyard turbo it while it isn't in the car. Make sure it works before I put it in. Damn, now I am thinking too. Maybe Santa will bring me something nice... >:-) Muahahahaha... -=B-=
