is there anything i should do to seperate the head from the block?or should i just keep prying on it?

Just like the bedplate from the block - rubber mallet. Just whack on it until it turns loose.

Dino has the right idea, as a bit of 'persuasion' can help. But do be careful of the hollow dowel pins that align the block to the head. There are two of them, one at each end. The head must come straight up in order to not damage the pins. Replacing the pins or repairing damage to the pin bores can be a PITA, se be careful!

FYI: Hahn RaceCraft now offers a heavy duty Head Stud kit for the 420A. It includes nuts and washers, and is a great idea for any 420A, whether it be boosted, NOS or all motor.
