12327, Quick BOV Question Posted by 96TSI AWD, Dec-17-01 03:10 PM
I have an automatic transmission. :( From what i understand, when the turbo spools up and the throttle plate is closed(such as when u release the gas shifting in a manual car) the boost escapes through the bov, creating a loud whoosh or chuff. Now, in an automatic, i assume, because i dont let off the gas when the car shifts, the throttle plate remains open, resulting in very little whoosh or chuff sound. I want to buy a bov, but i dont wanna spend a couple hundred on a nice one, if im not going to get a nice bov sound out of it. Also whats the loudest one out there, ive heard blitz super sound. thanx all

Like you said, you'll only hear it if you let off the gas while spooling. If you boost around town, you'll hear it periodically as there is always someone in front of you making you let off. If you want to do it just for the sound, I don't think its worth $200. Especially since you have a MAF. Usually, people with a MAF route the BOV outlet back into the intake track (so the engine doesn't stumble when you let off the gas). That further muffles the BOV sound. I wouldn't buy a new BOV unless you were pushing alot of boost and the stock one was leaking.

u wont hear it like if your racing, it only goes off when you let off the throttle. its still easy to hear it around town and on the highway tho ;)
i have the turbo XS type h-rfl on my automatic. its liek $160-180 depending where u get it, and its as loud as any other bov ive heard
