11931, New compression readings..... Posted by speedracer21, Dec-09-01 12:42 PM
Well i've been meaing to do a comp. test for awhile (but couldnt find my tester) So i finally found it and the numbers dont look good. from passanger side to drivers side: 185 190 180 90 after puting oil in the #4 it went up to 120 witch still sucks. Lokks like i'll be asking santa for a rebuild:-)

eeek, now you're a member of the 320A club, at least you seem calm about it :)

The only reason i'm calm abou tit is cause it still runs good. If it was not running or running lik sh$t then i'd be upset.

Try another compression tester. They break very easily and give wrong readings all the time. It's best to use more than one tester each time you test your compression. If you have 90 compression in a cylinder, you should be having a crapload of blow-by and losing oil like crazy.

96RS ~ full 99GS special body conversion, aem cai, greddy header, greddy sp exhaust, afx pulley, b&m sS, magecores & NGKs, S-AFC, Sparco Torino, illuminas, prokits, ingalls camber, gunmetal GS rims, ST Sways, STBs, lower rear tie bar, a shit load more.
97 ~ GSX stock for cock for now

also brings up a good point not to boost more than 7psi daily on stock internals... our rods can take more den that but our rings aren't well equipped for higher boost...

dang that sux. Well I've always had LOW compression. Hehe I always figured hmm I got a special 420A from the factory with lowered compression. I get oil blowing out of it only when I autocross. I suggest you do a retest, make sure you engine is pretty hot when you do it also.
I don't think you'd wanna install a 4G63 in a 2GNT, it's too costly and the speedracers car is pretty kick ass already. It bet it could smoke a stock GSX hehe...

hehe I think I am a lucky soul with the same 420a (low compression) Everyone test's i see on here are 200+ for each cylinder or REAL close. Mine was 165 155 155 155. Works for me...=)) Rebuilding soon anyways just to be safe

there it goes again.. someone talkin shit about the rings. when will it end? This irritates the fuck outa me because it leads to misconcieved tuners who need nothing but the facts.
IT'S NOT THE RINGS!!! GET FORGED """""PISTONS"""""

11941, RE: New compression readings..... Posted by DarkOne, Dec-11-01 10:24 AM
Right.
it's the PISTONS that break. My rings were the only thing holding it together.
Rings just make a seal. They don't take any of the abuse from the detonation, it's the piston surface that gets hammered on. It's the edges of the piston that break.

i'm sure thats where the crack, missing peice, or whatever is messes up is ---> Ring land
