hey all, today i was crusing going 55-60mph in vacuum all of a sudden my car loses power ( wants to die ) check engine light flashes so i try to pull to the side ( im in the 2nd fastest lane ) . im going to do a compression test tonight also white puffs of smoke came out from my exhaust bad and my catchcan rre is full. my fuel pressure drop 5-7psi when at idle also... whatelse should i check for besides compression test.. also my computer told me # 2 cylinder misfire and curcit something, if i got to rebuild im selling the kit and going stock since its under warrenty

Sorry to hear about that man.....doesn't sound too good. On a brighter note, if you are gonna sell your kit I'll probably take it off your hands for ya! I'd be interested....keep us updated!

11664, results of compression
Posted by pn0ymahal, Dec-04-01 05:17 PM
i did the compression test on all four.
spark plugs = all black when i removed them except #1 had a little white but mostly all black!
this is done continious till the neddle would not go anymore so i cranked it till it would not move anymore...
#1=202
#2=200
#3=205
#4=205
when i start it up my fuel pressure is at 70psi, also my idle is ruff at idle if i give it gas it clear up a bit but the engine sounds BAD?
also i tried to drive it my car will not move goes really slow, like if your walking, also when i backed it out it wanted to die 100rpm then jumped to like 1-1.300rpm?
inside the engine bay all fuel hose are hooked up to the fpr and right next where u got to tap into near the injectors i guess... tommorow im going to lift it up and see if all my hoses for fuel are good?
also my car smell like gas like when u put gas into your car at the gas station, u can smell it outside and inside i feel sick right now from it?
whatelse could i check for?
thanks
michael

Well, I don't know what exact fuel setup you are running or what kind of boost, but 70 psi at startup has to be way off irregardless. If you still have stock injectors, adjust that fpr so that your idle pressure is around 45-50. That excessive pressure would cause those plugs to turn black for sure, and the altered rise rate would cause your car to bog down for sure. By having that idle pressure so high, you're not only running too rich at idle, you're also running too rich untill you achieve full boost (and you could be flooded by then). What is the WOT fuel pressure btw???

If I were you, I would definately adjust the fpr, install new plugs (NGK-BKR7E-11 if I remember right...??? with the proper gap of course) and cross my fingers. Otherwise, I gotta say you either have a vacuum leak, a fairly severe exhaust leak (which might account for the smell), or a fouled O2 sensor in the downpipe (which could have been caused by running excessively rich). I doubt you have a leak in your fuel lines, or you wouldn't be able to achieve 70 psi at idle. Good Luck!

thanks

Looks like your engine is fine from your numbers. Well whats inside your engine. How's your timing belt? It could be some kind of sensor as well.

The lean code is from an exhaust leak. I got the code when my nuts came off the stock header. I didn't buy nuts for a while and then it started leaking BAD. This caused the ECU to dump a shitload of fuel because it though it was really lean but the A/F voltage was rich the whole time. Your ECU could be freaking out over an exhaust leak because the compression numbers are fine.

yes,

The engine sounds damn good actually. You are far from having a blown engine. I think you are just stuttering and dieing of too much fuel. You plugs are probably completely fouled right now. Replace your plugs, set your fuel pressure at idle again, and look for any leaks.

I had the same problem a few weeks ago. Plugs covered in black soot and the engine stalling and running really rough.

Replace the plugs....thats all you can really do.

hey mike,
your compression looks really good. is there any oil on your spark plugs? or are they wet at all? and try to connect all the wires from the MSD back to stock and see what happens. also remember to check the oil level before starting your car again. hmm the car is probably running super rich if you can smell gas, there are no fuel leaks that you can see are there?
remove the MSD reset the ECU and gimme a call and let me know what happens.

You shouldn't have to redo the wiring for the coil, just put in the bypass plug.
