I ripped out the AC system and evap and egr and all the other junk in our engine bays as you all already know... well, I'm getting her back together today(my backs feeling better so fxck the doctors) and I was wondering how effective the stock power steering cooler line is? Its scraping against my FMIC so I'd like to toss it, but I don't know if I will be fxckin' my self over in the long run... Will it cause my power stering pump to go out sooner I guess? Should I buy a cooler from summit or jegs that I can relocate somewhere else? I just dont see a single metal tube effectively dropping temps more than just a tiny smidge....

Let me know your thoughts dino, murix, fast420a, etc...

I wouldn't eliminate it. I would get a small fluid cooler and locate it somewhere more convenient. OEM wouldn't waste the money on it if it wasn't needed. OEM will give you just enough to make the car idiotproof, but nothing unnecessary.

Are you talking about the coolant pipe in the front? I ran into this problem alot when installing front mounts at my shop. The only thing I did was unbolt the tube. Then cut the support in the support bracket. Then tuck the tube behind the support. It flexes pretty easy and wont brake unless you go crazy on it. I probably did that to 10 cars in cali and never had problems witht them.

Ahh, well, for now I just stuck it back on there, found a better way to mount the front mount, havent tried to see if the bumper will still fit, but I think I'm all good... I am gonna get a power steering cooler and a oil cooler in the near future and mount them where the AC condenser was.

Thats alot of line and alot of pressure. Like I said I never had problems just tucking it back there

I just figure that a aftermarket power steering cooler would probably do a bit better of a job over OEM single metal tube... And I have been meaning to hook up my oil cooler sometime... I'd like to water cool the turbo also, but it seems that no one here had the down low on how to do this easiest yet....

the easiest way to water cool the turbo is to get water hoses for an eclipse gs-t (like 94 or 93), bend and cut them as needed, get the special bolts for the side to hook up the aater hoses (the name of them escapes me at this time). cut down yoru heater hose tubes a little goign to the thermostat, and going to the main water return pipe and put a T on them. run water from these 2 lines. that is the way I do mine. I think a more efficient way to do everything is just to get an oil cooler 'though. I hav e the greddy 13 row oil cooler, and I have seen oil temps as low as 100 degrees while driving (water temp is usu. about 180 or so in my car with the 160 degree thermostat).

Very good point Corbin, the factory wouldn't have wasted the time and money to design it in and install it. I've seen the same single tube without fins on other cars as well (my dad's 626 has it too).

I think a good place to put a cooler would be the other side of the bumper where the turbo cars would have their intercoolers.

So I should run the water lines like the pic below? Just put a sleeve over it where it goes over top the manifold? You could probably roast a chicken that close to the manifold so I dont want it bursting and leaking coolant ontop the manifold cracking it in the process probably... Think I could rig it up with some stainless lines?

Do as Armond said, which is where you are pointing in the pic. It is this way on his car and works well. In fact, it looks stock and is very similar to how it is done on a 4G63.

As for the power steering line, we did the same as mentioned earlier, cut the bracket tuck it behind. It causes no problems and not worth worrying about.

A good point was raised that peaks my curiosity as well. Why would you want to ditch things like your AC? I know it is weight, but so is your stereo system.

I really have no real reason for ditchin' the AC, but it seemed like the right thing to do at the time :-) but i was stoned and bored so anything sounded good, lol... i figured 1 less pulley, 1 less tensioner, a lot of dead weight, and freed up some engine bay space and some airspace for the fluidyne to suck in some colder air... plus the only time i ever turned it on since i've had it is when i bought it, just to make sure it worked... I uninstalled everything easily, so I figure i can always reinstall if i want it back... got a box of ac parts in the attic for now... the evap system is wasted space too, so is the egr system.... I just hate cramped engine bays full to the brim of shit, i think the appearance looks cleaner and a lot easier to work on now.....
