10968, HRC manifold woes Posted by Super20G, Oct-19-01 09:25 AM
Well, after getting my cracks welded and my egt installed, now where the turbo and the manifold bolt together is leaking boost :-( It's just a small little area thats warped or something a little... Is there anyway I can make a gasket that will withstand that kinda heat and fix my prob without haveing to remove the whole assembly?

Check RRE's DIY/Hacker-tweaker section.. they have laser cut stainless gaskets for most of that. I got one for my STAR kit's turbo-to-downpipe union and it's worked well for me.

id call bill and tell him you want to trade the one youhave for a new one cause you shouldnt have had to weld it in teh first place, he is a nice guy, he will prolly do it. plus you bought an expensive turbo from him too

Well, I haven't got a response from RRE yet, but TTI Racing said to call them w/ the specs and they will make one for me, so I am gonna call and see how much he's gonna want to do that... If I have anymore probs, I might see if Bill will help me out, I just hate to swap em out cause mine is ceramic coated and Bill's aren't stock. -- Brad Rickard 98 GS HRC Stage V (nuff said)

LAST EDITED ON 20-Oct-01 AT 11:32 AM (PST)I haven't had any problems with my manifold, but I did get a new copper exhaust manifold gasket from TTI racing. It's a great fit on the head and seals really nicely!

Thanks for the post, I am glad to find out they make good stuff, I would get one of their exhaust manifold gaskets too if I didnt just re-install everything the other day.. It's such a bitch to keep pulling everything off and putting it back on... That's why I am gonna have tti make the gasket, then I wont have to pull the manifold off, just the turbo and I can handle that. -- Brad Rickard 98 GS HRC Stage V (nuff said)

you aren't leaking boost, you are leaking exhaust, and I wouldn't buy a whole new manifold when you could get another one for free. just not good common sense.
