I'd be willing to be it's your missing link. Your ECU has no idea what to do when it sees positive manifold pressure, other than to pull fuel and retard timing, as I recall. Check to see if the valve on your ML is hosed. And spend the $10 on a decent FCD. Again, cheap insurance.
More than anything else you need a wideband right now.
