107363, oil restrictor hole size 1.62mm enough?
Posted by Hedge, Oct-23-09 11:53 PM
Hey, i hate to be asking questions and have been searching as much as possible to avoid repeat question.

I have Everything for my turbo kit (- the turbo timer, which is coming next paycheck) and just recived my oil line kit. The oil restrictor has the hole drilled to 1.62mm but can be drilled to 5mm. i really want to make sure that with a 1.62mm hole, i wont run this turbo dry, its oil cooled and a journal bearing turbo.

thanks alot

When I was using a journal bearing turbo, I used no restrictor. I had a -04 AN line from a tee at the back of the block, to a 90 degree swivel, and right into the center section. If you had a ball bearing turbo instead, a 0.035" hole would be appropriate. That is the size I use for my current BB turbo.

good point. Journal bearing turbo's dont require an oil restrictor, BB turbo's tho, yes.

so my seals would be alright just screwing the 4-an ss hose right into the oil port?

Run a 3an. 4an has caused isoltated issues in the long distant past.

I looked into this for a few hours and you apear to be compleatly correct. I will pick up the 3an ss line tomorow and run without a restrictor. It seems that most people just use a restrictor if the seals are starting to go bad, rather then on a new journal bearing turbo. Thanks alot for probably saving me some money in the long run.

My suggetion is to contact the manufacture. I deal with a local distributor for most of the popular brands and there are a few companys that wont warranty a turbo for the lack of an oil restrictor. Most get away without, but if you have something of value, it can be worth it on a journal bearing nontheless.
