107264, Treadstone turbo kit Posted by nicho919, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
I have looked around a bit, but I didn't really find anything really describing what I wanted.
So here she is.
I am looking at the Treadstone kit.
The Kit
This seems like exceptional value for money. It is seemingly everything you might need except for fuel, and tuning. Does anyone have any thoughts on the completeness of the kit, the build quality, the price, the reputation of Treadstone, or any other information?
I know the mainstay is seemingly the Hahn, but thoughts on this?
Thoughts?

hey I bought the kit and loved it! it came with almost everything but for a cheap kit it is an A+. I bought the .60 turbo. it was loud as +/*k.
it took me a weekend to install. need a boost gage it did not come with one and i had to wait tell monday to start it

i think the quality & parts of the treadstone surpass hahn's in a heartbeat. I'd pick TS's kit.

It looks like a good value. Make sure you price out the BOV, fuel pump, FMU, boost gauge, and FCD. That should bring the price closer to Hahn. I don't think the intercooler looks like a good match for the application. It is intended to pass high flow with low heat transfer. If the end tanks don't have internal baffles, it will tend to short-circuit and not make good use of the heat transfer area. I've seen worse, though.

I'm running the Treadstone kit on my yellow eclipse and the Hahn kit on my black eclipse. I by far like the turbo choice, waste gate and downpipe design of Treadstone but the intercooler and piping setup is far better from Hahn. The Treadstone kit comes with the larger turbo choice and they let you choose from a few different turbo sizes if you call them. not to mention it's a shiny polished Turbonetics turbo and Turbonetics Evolution waste gate. but the Treadstone intercooler is much smaller than Hahns front mount and the piping is a puzzle you have to cut and piece together from Treadstone. the Hahn piping is prefabbed and very nice but is a smaller diameter pipe. both downpipes require welding and some cutting to make work. The Treadstone kit also does NOT come with a blow off valve. you need to figure in an extra 200-300 dollars for a good blow off valve. Hahn kit comes with an OEM 3000GT blow off valve. see my wiki page link in my signature to see the pictures of both set ups.

lol you're right. I looked it up after i said that. it is a completely different kit than Treadstone though with the exception of the Turbonetics turbo. that was my fault.

Treadstone is pretty good stuff, but you can piece together parts a LOT cheaper. The downpipe fits like crap (angles toward the front of the car, makes you remove a fan) and has to be extended with a flex section so you're lookin at more $$ right there for an exhaust shop. Check out my sale thread in FS, I have a modified treadstone downpipe in there you can look at. Also have any turbo parts you would need to do the job ;)

I agree that it angles toward the front a little. but most turbos on our car will end up needing a pusher style set up anyway. I'm only running one fan anyway because i no longer have a/c. it's also perfect if you wanna use the Honda 1/2 radiator set up.
as far as the flex section though, I was running a set of GReddy headers before the turbo. the GReddy headers have a flex section in the downpipe. I just cut part of the Treadstone downpipe where it was angled right and welded the flange from the header side onto it. That way I don't have to remove the downpipe from where the convertor should be all the way to front everytime i need to work in that area.

hey it was an honest mistake. the last time i searched for the STAR kit for some reason it popped up with the Hahn kit. I've never had any real dealing with the STAR kit.

What about the CI turbo kit?

looks over priced for what it is. you can get practically the same thing from Treadstone for over a grand less. Only thing extra they give you is a hundred dollar Walbro fuel pump. I don't know of anyone running their kit yet.
