I had to many problems with my log manifold cracking and warping up, also wanted something with a better flow but dont have the cash for a nice SS one. I searched a little but found it would only work if you remove the AC, well that is not the case but it is a PITA to get around. Anyways here are some pics of the setup up. The DP is less than 1/2" away from the AC and I still have to weld the wastegate dump tube.

Also looks like your i/c piping off the turbo hangs pretty low.

Do you have any pics from the front to see if that pipe is exposed?
Otherwise, it works. Get a nice heatshield and you're set.

it's definitly different, I'd thought of taking one of those ebay headers and welding on a turbo flange at one point. I think it'd hang too low for good oil drainage back to the pan

i think it is way to low, but way to improvise

The turbo is low but oil drain is fine. The intercooler pipe isin't that low either. Doesn't scrape so Im not worried about it.

eh if you painted the intake piping matte black and put a nice polished stock heat shield on, along with keeping the upper hard pipe polished, you might be able to pull off a the "stealth Stock" look :thumbsup

only downside with that is you're gonna need to watch your oil level and make sure that the oil is able to return unrestricted back to the oil pan.

as for the lower IC pipe, you could make some protection for it by way of a sheet metal skid plate, aka Splitter :)
but if it drops below the front bumper parallel line then it is defiantly at risk for damage

The intercooler pipe is fine. Its made from steel pipe so if it scrapes a few time it wont tear it up like an aluminum one. I have been checking the oil drain several times and its fine. I have a heatshield but haven't got it on yet.

Did you port the mani or did anything to improve it's flow?
How does it compare (performance) to the other mani you had, spool time, egt's, boost spikes, etc... ohhhh and whp if posible!

I just gasket matched the mani for now, just wanted to get the setup on the car. I will try to find a pic with the bumper off. Spool times decresed slightly but not anything huge. EGT gauge is not yet tapped into the manifold. Dyno numbers will get coming soon and also some a few track passes.

Nice work. I like using stock where ever you can, lol. For "looks" why not just put the stock cover back on?

I plan on it, the heatshield I have has some dents in it and I want to polish it up some so it will go on in a few days.

I did have an interesting thought. What if someone was to cut the lower flange off the stock exhaust and just weld on a matching flange for the turbo? if you used an internally gated turbo it would actually leave pretty good clearance and wouldn't hang too low as far as I can tell. definitely stealth.

the only thing I'd be concerned with otherwise is the natural tendancy that the stock manifold has to crack with age

I thought about this and the problem with that is it would put the exhaust right into the AC compressor. Thats why I had to use the adapter piece and barely squeezed the exhaust by. If I still used the internal wastegate my setup up wouldn't work.

Wow. Good work man. How does the inner diameter of the stock mani compare to common turbo manifolds? This is an equal length manifold so I imagine the flow would be great. Might be nice to polish it if possible. Great Idea!

Though I never tried, I remember seeing pictures once of a 14b bolted directly to a stock 420A manifold, using just the two available bolts. I was told with the 14b crush-gasket, it didn't leak.

I think its pretty cool. Of course that manifold stock flows like dog dirt, but it is original. Only thing I would have done different is I would have routed the intake down where the CAI piping goes.

I have pics of Wheatkings setup on my old computer, back at my parents place.

The only problem bolting up the turbo to the stock DP is the AC is in the way. No way around it, the exhaust is just to close.

I think the stock manifold flows pretty good. Cant be any worse than a log manifold...

Also the outlet of the stock mani is the same as the turbo inlet. Im going to move my intake but I relocated the fuse box and its in the way now. May get to that this week. Just welded the wastegate dump tonight so I will be tuning this week getting it ready for the track.
