ok so i have a 99 eclipse gs, im going turbo within a few days, i have all the parts for, and all the fuel parts, the missing link and all. now i heard from this guy, that when i go turbo, that i must tune my car, otherwise my car will run like shit and won't be hitting boost efficiently. and also, will i need to totally switch out my ecu? this is what i've heard just recently

now what i've been going by, i can boost my car safely on 7 or 8 lbs of boost without blowing my motor, i just got a rebuilt motor so i think i'll be running fine. i don't need to tune or anything correct?

just a question to solve a dilema.

there are many guys here running low boost with the stock ECU being fooled by a missing link/FCD and proper manual fuel tuning with an FMU/SFMU without any issues. if you want to get more than what that can handle you may want to consider megasquirt to supplement and even replace the factory ECU but that requires rewiring the car and spending time tuning and retuning. it has amazing potential in the right hands but it's not to be taken likely, much research is needed.

I agree with above but boosting is not something you can simply install then forget about and the fact that you had to ask this question would concern me but search a little on the fuel aspect and you will be set...FMU/SFMU have proven to work on our cars and seem to be a simple route to take if you do not have the money or knowledge for MS or Portfuler so i would recomend looking into that...also i would look in to the FCD's..Good luck and post pics when you get it all set up

If you have to ask this question and rely on someone else's answer, I seriously do not think you are ready to turbo an engine.

agreed. I would do alot more research and buy everything you will need for fuel management before installing the turbo. Better to be safe than sorry, not a whole lot of room for tuning error especially when messing with stock internals. You should have something that you can manually tune the fuel with such as an SAFC. My advice, put the turbo on hold for awhile til you can learn more about what you're getting yourself into.

before you begin your install, please take Mikes (and others) advice and do your homework thoroughly and make sure you completely understand what your undertaking.

that is the key right there.
there is NO POSSIBLE way to just add this stuff on and go without tuning, yes you might be able to get it to run for a bit and possibly drive it, but without a PROPER fuel tune, you will soon experience an "Uncontained Disassembly" of your engine.

this isnt to say you need to pay for 6 hours on the Dyno, but you will need to get it done

I drove mine daily for quite a while using just an sfmu, no safc.

Once my tune was good, it only took a few adjustments throughout the year to keep my afr's where I wanted them.
