105448, turbocharging my stock 420a
Posted by 512baromeo, Sep-26-08 11:32 AM
wassup ya'll, im having doubts about turbocharging my eclipse, my concerns are;
1: compression ratio- stock 420a's have a 9.6:1 compression ratio, im not sure but isnt that too high to turbocharge?
2: Map sensor- what do i do about my map sensor? stock it wont recognize boost so itl throw a code and run like shit what should i do?
and im not sure but if im leaving any additional details please someone give me some pointers, id greatly appreciate the feedback and support.

well either someone told you something that was actually somewhat right, or you've actually done a bit of searching so I'll be nice.

Start here:

If that doesn't answer your questions, search for the terms missing link and fcd either here or on google.

As for the compression question, there's a ton of guys who have boosted stock blocks without issue (the compression ratio has no real effect on issues normally associated with boosting these cars in stock motor form) There are guys that run 10.5:1 with boost but most do go with lower compression pistons when they build their block

Not at all; You just need to keep the boost under 8-10PSI; If you're planning on staying on stock internals.

FCD, (It's basically just a voltage clamp that keeps the ECU from seeing boost, or A Missing Link; Same premise, expect it's check valve (I think, so correct me if I'm wrong, fellas.) That plugs in before the map sensor, to do the same thing.

don't get a missing link, mine as well as others have failed somewhat (the actual valve) and was getting fuel cut. Go w/ an FCD

Yeah, mine does too, but only when I hit boost at partial throttle.
