10498, T28 vs. 16G Posted by RxR_Eclipse, Oct-10-01 04:21 AM
Whats the Difference between the T28 and the 16G. I already know that the T28 is a direct replacement for the T25, is the 16G a better turbo???? Or can they Both make boost effeciently? I hear the T28 spools faster and makes just as much boost. It is about $200 more expensive. But with the 16G you need to buy a $300 upgrade kit! Which would be the better buy?

I personally would go with a 16G. They both supposedly flow the same CFM, but people in gerneral seem to pull better times with a 16G. Not to mention you can always upgrade the 16G to a 20G compressor wheel later if you want.... The T-28 is basically a T-25 with larger compressor wheel etc.. Look exactly the same. Spool up times are a little better with a t-28 I beileve but nothing to mind blowing.

So basically you can get near the same results with at T28 as you would with a 16G! I do mostly autoX so would the T28 be in my favor due to the lack of spool time??? Or can the 16G be ported enough to give it less spool??? I havent even goten my 2G turbo and am already purchasing parts for it! What to buy, what to buy, that is the question!

I wuold say for your purposes of autocrossing, a smaller faster spooling turbo will best suit you (in your case the t-28). however they have really shitty top end power. Much like the previous comment, the 16G can later be upgraded to a 20G wheel. But you will experience lag, which equals longer spool up time====> slower autocross time.

You must be talking about the origonal T28, (super 60) because the new T28/28 (FP's) has tons of top end in fact even at 18 psi it never slumps off. (I would imagine it is this way at 20+ psi also, don't have the mods yet to support that though :) ) For auto crossing and for automatic cars, that turbo is a great choice. Same performance as a 16g without the lag and install problems. The spool is actually considerably better than even a 14b let alone a 16g. Bigger is not always better :) and many of the newer turbo's are proving to be much better than the old "standard" 16g, 18g etc. Although if I were to get a bigger turbo it would be a FP red or green made for the automatics, this might even be a good way to go for autocrossers who do a bit of drag racing because of what FP does to it to make spool better.

LAST EDITED ON 10-Oct-01 AT 04:16 PM (PST)Sounds like you have some first hand knowledge on this one! I think I will get the T28, After some more research I found that It will produce as much boost as a 16G but cannot be upgraded much more than what it is. But As the price goes $829 for the T28 and $625 for the 16G + $300 for the install kit = $925. These values do not include shipping, using logic I would have to say that the T28 is the better deal all around! Thanks alot for the info! Peace out
