I just have a few questions for those of you who've completed the installation of a DFI already... maybe you can save me from some research. I'll be installing mine this weekend and want to get a feel for what you've done. I'm using an Aeromotive FPR and RC 720cc injectors.

1. Where did you mount the coolant temp sensor? I think I remember someone putting it in the thermostat housing, but space is limited around there and I think I'd have to weld-in a bung for the sensor.

2. What's the easiest way to set the base fuel pressure before starting the engine? Or should I just start the engine and adjust it first thing?

3. Are you using the o2 sensor input to the DFI? I think I'm going to disable it.

4. The stock ECU will continue to control the IAC... right?

5. I'm going to use the stock ignition system. Which wire on the coil pack should I tap?

Timing belt side of the water neck. it's a tight fit, but there is enough room and the waterneck is thick enough to take the sensor after you tap the hole.

You could always hotwire the pump, but in my experience most regfulators are set for roughly 40psi out of the box. I had to do minimal adjustment to mine. Easiest way is to just find a base map the will get the car to start and idle.

The nice thing about the DFI is that you can set the throttle position you use to determine when it should be in closed loop. I use the O2 sensor input to keep cruise and idle gas milage sane and it works very well, but if i go above 30% throttle it goes back to open loop.

Yes. No worries there. Works even better than stock that way.

None. Use the tach signal off the ECU itself. Solid white wire, only one in the harness. I use that signal, even with my MSD.

Dino, you are the MAN! I think that clears up my minor concerns as far as the install goes. I'll be making some posts this weekend as I do the install... including wideband A/F graphs of both the SFMU/400cc setup and DFI/720cc setup. Probably lots of pics and some videos as well.

Where the hell did you find a tap the size of the sensor threads? Do you know what size the tap is?

Why not just replace the stock coolant sensor with the DFI coolant sensor? Does the ECU actually use it for calculating ignition functions?

I think it's 3/8th NPT, s'what my air temp sensor was..

Thanks guys... I really appreciate the help. 3/8" NPT is the tap I needed. I had to borrow one from a machinist friend because I couldn't buy one anywhere. Anyways, I tapped the housing at the middle "0" in the part number on the side.

The DFI install should be complete tomorrow night and I'll post some pics soon of the install. It's gone very smoothly.

I'm prepared for a rough ride trying to get it dialed in. I know my fair share about fuel injection and I've studied the EMIC Training Guide and also the book Tuning Accel/DFI Gen 6.0. I think the new wideband setup I have from Innovate Motorsports is going to be the best tool I have when tuning... and 2GNT ofcoarse!

Yeah I have the LM-1.

How much did you spend total, and what accessories did you get??

I got the standard LM-1 kit. It was $349.00 plus whatever shipping method you want. I had them ship it via FedEx Overnight and the shipping was $38.00 but he said ground is normally about $10.00. I suggest calling instead of placing an order online because it's about to go on backorder. It was packaged very nicely.

The standard kit comes with the LM-1 controller/LCD, Bosch o2 sensor, cigarette lighter adapter, serial cable, software, battery, sensor bung and plug, 20 ft. sensor cable, and quick-start guide. It's everything you need to start monitoring and logging A/F ratio. If you want to log RPM, TPS, MAP, etc. then you'll need to purchase the auxillary input option with is another $100. I plan to buy that soon. They have some very cool add-ons that will be released soon too.

Overall, I like it and would recommend it.

Thanks. I was thinking of getting the that aux option and also the air/fuel gauge along with it. plus theres 2 other useful add ons coming out in a month or 2.

Looks like a cool unit but no having no real time monitoring is a turn off.

Edit: I guess you could buy the extra cables and analog gauge though.

There's a real-time digital monitor on the main unit.
