104401, What hp/tq do you think i'll be around?
Posted by halfasss101, Oct-12-08 03:19 PM
Hey everyone, I'm almost ready so start turbo install, just need the turbo kit, (going with treadstone kit with 60 trim stage 3 turbonetics), BOV (going with Tial 50mm) MAP clamp, EGR blockoff, and electric cutout. I have fully built longblock. Std bore, JE 8:8:1 pistons, eagle long rod kit, crower stage 2 N/A cams, Std size stainless valves, P&P head, and adjustable cam gears. Running the portfueler at whatever my clutch will hold, I'm guessing 30-33psi. I have read that a built bottom end with stock head @26psi put down 450hp. So i figure with the built head, more boost and a good tune on the portfueler with meth injection that i maybe will hit 500hp. I'm hoping for it. What do you guys think?
Thanks

You hit 500whp and will give you high five.

I'm hoping i will. The more, the better, i have a trans am that i have to kill and he's running 11's. Can't stand the guy. I'm sure a 19 year old kid beating his v8 on a 150 shot will piss him off. So thats what i want. heh heh. Is there even anyone on this forums at 500hp?

I think the portfueler can only go to 26psi... So count 30+psi a no go..

Your engine is only as good as the hp flow rating of your air pump (doesn’t mean you’ll ever reach those levels without supporting mods though). It’s a good pump until it gets around 23ish psi, then it becomes inefficient. Imagine 32!!! Throwing an ignition system in with the portfueler wouldn’t hurt.

You’re not going to beat him with 150 shot...

450 maxxx. and thats on a perfect tune fuel and ignition

..... I dont know..... stock head at 26psi is around 450hp, correct me if i'm wrong. I think i'll be over 450 though. If not 500 i think i'll be close. Are there any ideas where i should start with cam gear adjustments?

Stock head 26psi is not 450 HP. Dont know where you are getting your info but the author of that info is a moron.

Portfueler will only support about 27psi.

http://turbosystem.com/auto/engine/Portfueler.htm

And your going to need some kind of ignition control.

You can boost more with the portfueler, you just have to put more fuel in the 26psi point for whatever you are going to boost. If you're boosting 32, you put whatever 32 needs in the 26 spot and it'll be fine.

Good luck with the car but I just gotta say I hate these "guess the HP threads" for many different reasons.

That is all :shrug

Do you know about what it is at 26psi w/ stock head?

26 PSI you might be around 360-380 ish with a good tune on the portfueler. or less. who knows what your supporting mods and tuner ability will be able to produce.

450hp hahahaha.

we'll see what happens, turbo will be here tomorrow. Maybe i'll just put everything in and pay someone off for smog. I'll put about a 1000 miles on it first week and get on it a little bit around 15 psi and see how it goes. I have OBD2 software for my laptop and it has a dyno on it and its pretty accurate. It was within 6hp of real dyno on friends srt4. So i'll do that and let you guys no how that goes.

YEAH OK. take your laptop dyno and fork out 100.00 for a real dyno. Dont even attempt to post what your laptop says.

good luc paying off a smog guy....ur better off doing what i did, and get some CARB stickers...my numbers checked out, but the parts wernt legit, it worked extremely well...besides, iif u get pulled over, and they pop ur hood..ull prolly get pwnd without CARB stickers... gl on the bench dyno'ing

just for reference, a couple weeks ago, i did 300 wheel at 20 psi. t3/t4, stock head, 8.8:1 je's, not much more than that. That was also untuned (11 afr's at WOT at 20psi, and no ignition tune (stock)). obviously, initial pre-ignition did me in and running those pressures is NOT recommended w/out retarding ignition timing appropriatly. That should give you a good benchmark for your "Guess". IFFFF i had to guess what 26 would do, i'd say 380, like i said before on a perfect AFR and ignition tune w/ optimum conditions. You can boost more, but its all in the tuning and thresholds of your components, ex. turbo, etc.

Just my 2 cents...

I'd up your compression a bit. I'm sure i'll get flamed by someone for suggesting that you deck the head a bit...but. When i build mine i'm going with higher comp, or atleast stock comp. That's what i intend to do to try and solve the problem. Being as portfueler is boost limited make more power with less boost by raising compression. Sure you can just guess what amount of fuel you will need for whatever amount of boost your gona run and hope for the best, or if your the teadiouse (sp) loving type sit and play with it...and risk blowing hours of hard work and hard earned money through the hood of your car.

Yeah it makes tuning a bit more difficult to tune a higher comp. motor but if you already don't mind tuning this won't be a problem either. That and you'll have much better throttle response period, both boosted and N/A. And an adjustable ignition is going to be neccesary for the amount of HP you want.

As for beating the guy with the trans am on a 150 shot. I'd check how much of a shot he's running. Is he running 11's in a 1/4 or an 1/8? just wondering. I'd think it be a 1/4 cuse an 11 sec 1/8 trans am would get eating by my broken car that ran a 10.9 without 2 cylinders and a piece of metal bouncing around inside.

Building an 11s DSM...thats what you should be asking. How to do that if beating that trans am is your goal. Wether that is possible idk...i don't know much about 11s 2gnts. I just know 11s is pretty quick.

And mikey, your setup still has a good bit, BANME, working against it. Yours will get there. I wanna buy those rods off you. Yous still go them?

I love my car...
I love Horsepower...
I love reliability...
So why do i own a DSM again?

You have absolutely nothing to stand on as far as talking about Mikeys car.

You use "pretend" knowledge in everything that comes out of your sewage hole.

Actually, no it didn't. Maybe the whole situation is over your head. He works at a performance shop. He is not going to pay retail anyway. You must just want to sell them on ebay or something.

Asking people what kind of numbers you are going to put down on a dyno based on your setup is completely pointless. You didn't even mention what kind of dyno it is going to be run on. There is quite a bit of variance from one dyno brand to another. For example a friend of mine made 356 awhp on a dynodynamics, and the same exact tune on a dynojet netted him 387 awhp. That's an 8% difference between the two, do you understand what I'm getting at? Just go get it dyno'ed and come back and report your results, there's no point in taking shots in the dark based off what you've supposedly heard somewhere when your planning on dynoing it anyway.

hp numbers trully are useless in reality. Their good to judge wether you've made progress or not with your modifications. Like i suggested, your much better off asking wat kind of setups are running 11 sec. Times are a much more accurate measure of really "speed". Its the whole 500hp vs 1000hp supra thing. You'd think a 1000hp supra would win...not. Its power comes in sooo late that by the time it does the 500hp is already gone... and ate lunch. That's why n/a car's are so quick...too

but...I'm sure a good 400hp 420a will put you in the 11sec range. What do ya'll think?

mikey man. I ain't dissin on your car. I like wat your doin. I like any 2gnt, stock or modded. I just think you've still got some stuff workin against you but once you get the kinks out you'll be okay.

Ya, i know what you mean. I think i'll be in the 11's no problem. If i'm in the low 400's i'll throw a 50 shot on there and call it good. I'm determind to get that guy's trans am. My buddy's supra would be nice to beat too. He's got 731 at the wheels with a t-88 turbo on there. It's fast, but like you said, it takes awhile to make the power. I just sat there waiting for it to spool. Damn thing didn't spool til 4500-4700 or so.

:whoa whhhoooaaa...careful putting nitrous on top of turbo. I'm not sure that's one of those things that in reality go together. Yes on the bottom end to spool a big turbo faster..or if you can't wait...a small one really fast (works good against supercharged cars esp v8's ;) ) but as far as on top of a turbo idk if that's a good idea. I think the cylinder pressure that's created from running both together is exponetially enourmous.

But i may be wrong. :shrug It may work in the right setup, but most of my experience is that nitrous on TOP of turbo is a no-no. :nono

I'll do my research, and if need be, someone that knows what they are doing to tune it right. Maybe not a 100 shot. I've been thinkin more like a 50 shot. Just that little extra boost in case they only beat you by like a car length or two. lol. Hahn runs their eclipse with a 100 shot on 26+psi. So, i'll look into before i buy a nitrous kit. and again, i just want this damn thing running with turbo. I'll run about 20 for awhile until i get the msd dis-2 to crank it up to 30 and depending on what that dynos at at 30psi, i'll put a 50 shot on it. We'll see. I know where you're coming from though

nitrous works really well with boost. you just gotta be careful how you do it. the super low intake temps will get you the most out of your boost. utilize timing and octane to fuel a v8 killer like that. good luck putting 450hp to the floor!

good luck with it man. I love the idea of nitrous and boost. I've just never seen an epplication except to "super" spool a turbo. But i'd be more tha willing to try it...hehee
