103875, Technical Question Posted by 420A2G, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
I am building a new 420a for my GS because my baby's motor is finally breathing its last.
I am putting in stronger parts for everything from the cams to the oil pump so I dont have to worry about breaking things all the time.
I'm going to add a turbo to the system as well as a little nitrous.
I just wanted to know what you guys could suggest as far as what compression/shape pistons I could go with. Also what I should go with as far as lift and duration on the cams (I want a lot of power in the lower RPMs for sure but an overall well balanced curve) I'm thinking of using a stroker, so if anyone could show me a good stroker kit with a very well balanced crank and strong pistons and rods it would be helpful.
Thanks, Aaron

It really all depends, everybody has a different idea on a build, if you are planning on running some good boost what most people recommend is getting lower compression pistons from JE, Weisco, etc. Now for the rods, some forged ones from eagle will do you good. If you are planning to go stroker a good site to check would be howellautomotive.com, but be aware of the stories of waiting time with howell.... as far as cams go mostly everybody recommends the crower 2's turbo grind due to the lower overlap rating than the other cams, crane 14's are a good choice also, but from what I have read people that get 14's want 16's down the line.
you have really general questions dude, If you just put your mind into it you can find everything you need in the search engine, learn how to use it and you will save yourself a lot of headaches in this site.
good luck

yes use the search engine, find out what other people have done with their motors and get off of that then come back to us with more specific questions. search button is your friend

You want more torque down low?
Go with long rods?
Run a 2-step?
Progressive nitrous controller?
Lighter clutch, flywheel, valvetrain, wheels?
2.4L chrysler block swap?
All those things will help low end torque. With some of those, you can run a turbo that makes most of it's power after 4,500 rpms without killing driveability around town off boost.
It all depends on what you specifically want your car to do.
Tuning isn't as simple as people make it out to be.
