Well, I got the fuel gague almost installed now, and started looking around on and searching 2gnt and dsmtuners, and was suprised at how little I could find on the instal of the oil gauge. I was wondering if anyone knows a site with ALOT of pictures to help me with the install.
I'm just a novice and learning........So Im sorry for the bother and greatly thankfull for anyone that helps. :)

first off, what type?
oil temp or oil pressure?

pressure must be in a presurised oil gallery on the block and the easiest to get to is where the oil pressure sensor is.
regardless whether its mechanical or electric most prople have removed the stock oil pressure sending unit and stuck a brass "T" into that space and stuck the gauges sending unit in that.

temp could be most anywhere that oil collects, some use the same location as the oil pressure sensor (i use that location so i can see the temp of the oil going to the turbo)
other people tap it into the oil pan, or use an oil filter adapter that has NPT ports for a sending unit.
this location is useful if your running an external oil cooler.

Its a Mech. Oil pressure gauge.
So buy a brass T and stick the oil sensor I got with the gauge into the T? what about the old oil sensor (switch)?

If you are a novice, I would return the mechanical oil pressure gauge and get an electrical one. They are a lot easier to install. Just connect the sender to the tee you get and then run a wire to the interior of the car and connect it to the gauge.

Mechanical is not any more difficult than electrical. Just buy a Brass T in one side install the Sending unit for your gauge and the onther open port put your stock one back. The stock Oil sending unit is on the back of the block right below the intake manifold. on the throttle body side. I believe it is a limegreen color. and stock sending unit is a one and one/sixteenth socket(correct me if I'm wrong) to get it off. be very careful not to over tighten and keep the socket straight...you dont want to break it off in the block. good luck...its not as hard as it seems.


also I would take the stock sending unit off before you purchase the brass t fitting. to insure you have the correct size. take the aftermarket sending unit with you also.

For a beginner, an electrical is definitely a lot easier to install. It's easier to run a single wire to a sender compared to running a brass hardline to a gauge where if it is not tight enough, can leak oil. Also, some tracks won't let you run your car if you have a mechanical oil pressure gauge installed in the cabin as they consider it a safety hazard.

good point on the messy side......as far as the track I believe you have to been running a certain time before you arent allowed to fluid lines in the cabin...I dont think he'll have to worry baout that right now.

Thread of the factory sensor is 3/8 NPT. keep the mechanical you have and install it. Sorry but the easier concept I do not agree with that and electrical tend to become more inaccurate as they age.

You want to pick up a 3/8 NPT brass "T" and a 3/8 NPT union. They will be in the same location at the store prolly right next to each other.

The union will thread into one end of the "T", the stock sensor will thread into the opposite end of the "T". The gauge adapter you have will thread into the middle of the "T". THread that assembly into the block.

SEALANT: You want to pick up TFE sealant or paste. At a home depot, it will be located where they have the natural gas supplies. Use that instead of any teflon tape.
