Ok. I've cheked some of the other Threads already, but I am not as good with Technical Aspects, I'd rather have someone just out and out give me some ideas.
I have a 98' GS (Approx. 20k on the Engine and 1k on the Trans.) I'm planning on ordering a Stage II HRC w/FMIC and was also looking at some of the Performance Kits from Howell. I see they have a Master Performance Kit, but is that really necessary? I see most Threads mention a Performance Bottom End Long Rod Kit that's like half the price. Either way.. Can anyone tell me the way to go?

The kit that comes with low compression JE pistons, JE rings, Melling oil pump, Eagle rods and all new bearings.

That is what you need.

yes, that is everything you'll need, but Howell is EXTREEEEEEMLY SLOW. Just punch them in the search engine here and you'll find a bunch of people who have had to wait 3-6 months for parts. When I put the HRC kit on I got all my parts from www.modernperformance.com. I got all my stuff very quickly and had no problems with them, but for that kind of order it's best if you call them. I think they're a little cheaper too.

call them and find out if they have everything in stock first, that will solve all your waiting issues.

Yeah, especially since those kits are "built to order".

If you can get the long rod kit cheaper, go for it.

The benifits are more torque since the piston has a longer duration at tdc.

The drags? I've HEARD, not seen evidence of or experienced, that the rings and cylinder walls wear ALOT faster. That's just what i've heard. Dont put any faith in that. If you seek the truth or are second-guessing the kit, use the search. Use google too since our cars aren't the only ones with long rod kits available.

How much are you wanting to boost? Stock engines can safely handle 8-10psi. 8psi on 16g turbo, you're looking at about 220whp and 10psi about 240whp. You'll never have to worry about the tranny, people are running 500hp on them stock, I'm running high 300's on mine, no problems with 108000 miles on it. If you want to boost more than 8-10psi, check out cimotorsports.net they have ALOT of 420a parts 733 performance parts last time i checked. If anyone finds a site with more than that for our cars, i'll be surprised. Don't email, call them, they are slow with email because they are a little shop in pennsylvania with only a few guys and they're busy as hell. my built short block with wiseco forged pistons, eagle forged rods, clevite bearings with melling oil pump and airtex water pump was 2k shipped. Short block is all you need. the head is almost bulletproof. Good to about 25 psi which most people dont even get close to. PM or just post on here for more info if needed.

Make sure to do your research and read all the reviews in the good guys/bad guys section before making any large purchases.

i just ordered new pistons valves gasket kit and new bearings from cimotorports.com and it took over 2 months for it to arrive. Every time i called them they made up a different excuse. I wouldn't recommend ordering from them.
