103192, Turbo a Mess
Posted by Trambone, Apr-06-08 10:38 AM
First I like to say I'm sorry ahead of time for all the stupid/silly questions I'm going to ask not only now but in the future.
I dont know a great deal about the turbo system but I'm trying to educate myself.

Ok, I got my car back from the guy that installed the turbo, but he didnt put it on right.

He said my head gasette blew so I need to replace that, but my question is, should I hear the BOV when I rev up my engine while the car is idiling? With a blown head gasette?

Also, from what he told me Im getting 8psi but only 5 at the end.
How could I be lossing 3psi? He said he looked everywhere for a leak and there was none.
So I dont know what to do about the lost power other then buy a MBC and turn up the boost.

He also put my FMU under the car in the back near the exhaust....I looked at other peoples set up and they put theres near the fuel rail under the hood.

Boy, I'm lost.

If anyone has any advice, any whats so ever, Im very thankful to you.
Ill have lots of more questions latter..:)

My Fuel and oil gauge are hooked up wrong, but I think I can hopfully find the answer to how to install them with the handy "search" button on this site. :)
Is there a write up on that with lots of pictures showing how on the internet anywhere?

Oh, and sorry for the spelling....I couldnt get spell check to work.

Yes you should still or at least i did when i blew my head gasket. You do know that you need to be at the right amount of revs or push the gas enough to let you turbo spool up and then it will release into the BOV. Pretty much if you see if your in boost on your gauge you should hear it.

It depends free reving. We have discussed this topic probably 8-10 times in the passed year. Try searching around a little bit and that will answer your questions about that.

About the boost leak..If your wastegate is a 8psi gate, and your running a FMIC, it is normal to loose maybe 2-4 psi drop through the intercooler. So if your seeing 5psi you probably loosing it through the i/c. You can also search on here for a homemade boost leak tester too to check for a leak. Its pretty simple, and costs about $8 to make.

Now for your blown head gasette. Let me correct you on this to begin with. You shouldnt need to spell check to know thats it called a GASKET, NOT a gasette, LOL. If you have a blown head GASKET, this should be addressed ASAP before it leads to furthur damage like a warped head or anything like that.

If you have a late model car, then it is in the right place. We don't have a return from the front, so it's easier to install it there next to the stock regulator.
