102890, more boost Posted by eclipse RS-T, Feb-21-08 06:11 AM
Heres what i got, its a 420a with a star turbo kit.For fuel mods it has 255lph fuel pump, and as for FMU its a B&M commandflo fuel flow modifier.Im runnig 9psi boost.
I bought my eclipse 420a with the turbo kit,FMU and fuel pump already on it. During the time ive owned it, i have rebuilt the motor with wiseco 8.8 pistons and eagle rods.
After running my car at 9psi for so long, i am wanting to run more boost. I was wanting to run 16 to 17psi.
What do i need to accomplish this? Injector size? S-FMU? And would i need to retard timming?

I would either look into the SFMU or the AEM F/IC for budget fuel systems. The AEM F/IC looks promising and will end up around the same cost as the SFMU system and has more expandability and tuning options.

If i use the S-FMU what size injectors would you recomend for my application?
And the FMU thats on my car now is a vortech FMU, But i dont think it the S-FMU. Is there any way to tell?

The biggest size injectors you can run on the SFMU setup is around 450cc and still maintain "decent" fuel pressures. You will need an SAFC to help tune the idle and will be limited to around 15-17 psi I believe.
EDIT: Search on vortech's website, there is a significant difference in the looks between the two. Figure out which one you have.

After doing some research i found out that the Vortech FMU on my car is just a FMU and not a SFMU. Can I just get the right recalibration kit for my FMU to run the 450's for 16psi?
Thanks for the help totaleclispe
I also have the B&M fuel flow modifier on my car. After researching it i found out its some kind of adjustable fuel pressure regulator. I dont know if this info helps.

No you need at least an sfmu. You cannot adjust your idle fuel pressure (which is necessary with larger injectors) using just a regular fmu. I urge you to search the wiki and the forums, all this has been covered many times before.

Well couldnt I adjust the idle pressure with the adjustable FPR. Also I found some DSM Bluetop 450s and a resistor box for sale. Will those work with the setup I want?

That's basically what an SFMU is, an adjustible fpr that raises fuel pressure with boost. I advise doing what Corey said and read the wiki.

Well at 17-18 pounds of boost you could make 380hp as long as its tuned correctly and fuel is provided well.

After 15 pounds dont i need to retard the timing or somthing to reach 17-18 pounds? Ive searched and found that some guys run 20 pounds without retarding the timing.

Depends if youre getting knock.
I ran 22psi daily, s16g on 93 oct on stock timing, stock ignition. No knock.

As long as my air/fuel is right and my EGT is in the right range, is that enough to run 18pounds.
Sorry but whats Knock, Detonation?

Thanks, I just went by detonation.
Is it easy to tell when get knock?

Oh yes.
You'll either A), blow your engine or B) hear metal pings comming from deep inside your engine, like somebody put 1/4" ball bearings in your cylinder. You can't miss it.
