I'm sure this is a simple question, but i am planning on getting a HCR stage 2 this coming spring/summer. I see a lot of you who have turbo's, have the A/F ratio guage, egt guage, and a SAFC. My question is do i need to have those for the turbo to work properly, or is it a good idea to have those. Also, what exactly controls the A/F ratio when u put on a turbo? With all of the extra air going to the motor, does the computer "take up" for this? I think it is more fuel pressure to the injectors, but maybe someone can clarify this for me. At what point would i need to upgrade the injectors, or would i use the stock ones? Ok, its more than one q, but Thanks for the help guys!

A/F guage tells you semi-acurately whether your running lean, stoch, or rich. With a turbo bolt on, you want to be running a little rich, if it goes lean, you need to let off of it, adjust your boost lower or your SAFC, so yes, this gauge is a must. Also, a boost gauge is very helpful, expecially when you think your getting either too much or not enough boost... Both are very easy to install. The A/F has a signal wire that ties in to the signal wire on your 02 sensor. The boost gauge has a vaccume line that ties into your other vaccume line around the intake manifold. EGT is also very helpful because if your running too rich or too lean, this can cause excessive heat that will distroy your new toubo kit along with causing engine detonation and BANG, there goes the engine... Another very helpful gauge, but a bit on the pricy side. You will have the probe welded into your exhaust manifold on the 4th runner, closest to the driver side. The S-AFC allows you to tune your fuel curves +/- 50% I believe, I have never played around with one of these, but the majority of the lower stage turbo package users usually have one of these.

Its a good idea to have the gauges to let you know if something is not in proper tune. the SAFC definately is NOT needed for stage 1 or 2 but your car will run better with one.

Thats all it is, more fuel pressure to the injectors via boost sensing rising rate regulator (FMU/FCU or whatever they are calling em these days). Same can be done with additional injector(s) and controller which sprays additional fuel from the additional injector(s) at a programmed rate and boost. No kits for our car uses this method.

Well you may get different answers from different people. Some dont like the high fuel pressure used with the basic stage 1/2 kits and would recommend using larger injectors ASAP. If high fuel pressure doesn't concern you and you never plan on boosting past stage 1/2 levels I guess you could use them forever. Personally I would but it on a "to do" list once at stage 2. You cant go any further without em anyway so might as well.

Thanks fellas, i try to learn all i can about our cars and these turbos befor i attmpt to do the kit install. Never thought i would say this, but damn, it pays to do your homework!!
