102624, which FMU ratio and which lines to go with...
Posted by kevox, Jan-27-08 04:20 AM
Alright I'm about 2 weeks away from being able to have the MsNs installed! But I still need to buy the FMU and I'm assuming that since i wish to run 10/16psi I'm going to need better fuel lines - aka SS fuel lines. I heard "Jegs" is really good, where can I buy some of those? Any other suggestions?

And as for the FMU I'm going to go with Vortech Engineering but I'm still not positive on the ratio I should go with, 6:1 ok? The way I read it in an article here is that the stock fuel ratio is about 55psi and we want to aim for 100-110 when under boost so if I were to run 10psi @ a 6:1 ratio I'd be rigth up to 115psi but then if I ran that same setup at 16psi I'd be all the way up to 151psi fuel pressure  Do I perhaps need a 4:1 FMU? Please help me out in the last stretch of my fuel system here, thanks!!!

with MSNS you use a 1:1 rrfpr, and if your looking for 10-16 psi, you will need larger injectors.

You can order the "jegs" stainless braided fuel line right from Jegs.com. Use 6an.

Thankyou both! One other thing, does RRFPR mean Return Line FPR? Larger injectors were on the list - I didn't realize they were necessary though. Think 350cc's will do for that kind of boost? thanks again...

Aeromotive 1:1 (pn 13109) :thumbsup

a hint with the SS lines. when choosing them realise that the fittings that go on the actual ss braid itself MUST be from the same company as the ss line. ie no Aeroquip fittings on a Earl's line
this is because companies have subtle differences in the diameters and are designed for the specific seal that ther hose fittings make.

i bring this up just so you can think about that when building your line incase you run across a funky angle and need a wierd fitting.

Note: this dosent apply to ANY of the -AN male fittings those can be from any manufacture you want.

Ah ok...I've come across the Aeromotive unit before but always read "Compatible with Aeromotive fuel pump" so I assumed it was ONLY compatible with the matching Aeromotive fuel pump? I guess not afterall...that's cool then cause it's slightly cheaper than the Vortech and AEM FPR's!

Also thank-you foggy45, did not know that and I just may have made that mistake! Now to search where to buy the right parts from...

Ah geez...where exactly do I find a SS fuel line kit at jegs.com???? This is the closest thing I found and considering it's only 2' long i doubt it's what I'm looking for...

Remeber that you only use the Aeromotive 13109 regulator If you are going to use Megasquirt or the Portfueler or some other type os standalone. If you are using a rising rate reglator, then you need to get some form of an FMU. Just decide what ratio you will need. i.e. 12:1,10:1 etc. The 1:1 ratio of the Aeromotive unit is not great enough to use alone. If you want a fmu with a lot of adjustabilty look into the Vortech Sfmu.

jackpot, thats what you want. easiest thing to use/adjust if your not using a standalone system like the MSnS or PortFueler.

OOps, guess I forgot to mention that I do have an MsNs! It just needs the remaining components (FPR and better fuel lines) to be purchased in order to go in! I still haven't been able to find the right fuel lines though; isn't there a stainless steel kit for sale somewhere?

No. This is all custom installation at this point. You're using the MSnS and are not being comfortable building stainless steel lines or figuring out which FMU to use is a bad indication of things to come.... Everyone here that is MSnS including myself mastered the art of the search, the goog, and the MSnS website to configure and install and tune to our specific platforms. You are in for a long haul and a lot, lot, lot of research...

I agree to the point that the only part of the installation I will take part in is that of observation; I'm not the mechanic with the knowledge and prior fuel management installs behind his belt doing the install here! I'm not great at looking stuff up like this cause I simply don't have the knowledge or basic mechanical knowledge to know what will work in certain configurations and what won't.

DUDE your gonna end up paying out the ass for mechanics to work your turbo and fuel system over especially if your dealing with SS lines. (countd as a performance part so shops charge as a custom job and rape you since its now per hour and no real book time)

seriously grab BOTH the Chiltons manual and the Haynes manual for our cars and learn from them. they always start with basic mechanics and work up from there. with what you are doing to your car, you are gonna have to tinker with it alost all the time to get it to keep runing. and a shop will eat your paychecks if you have to go to them for every little hicup.
you are now out of the relm of stock cars and into the finiky world of project cars where you will get to know your car intimatly

next is your local Barnes and Nobel store. grab an Espresso and plunk down in the automotive section and read anything where the title sounds interesting.
at some point your sponge will crave more information on a topic and lead you elsewhere.
i litterly have a small library of automotive books ranging in everything from turbo theory to engine management and fuel systems to aerodynamic fluid dynamics.

Thanks for the link...

And it may be useful to say that I'm not paying just some mechanic thousands of dollars to install this and tune it but rather my friend who has extensive knowledge with cars and has tuned (and wrecked, lol) several nice cars over the last few years. He's doing the job for me and then I'm gonna work on his stereo to help pay for it so it's not gonna cost me a whole lot.
