I've been attempting to get a 2.4 together for well over a year now, and I've since realized that I'll never get it done if I stick to my original project goals. I originally wanted to make an equal length mani with paired runners for my big T04 divided flange, however due to lack of funds I have decided to go with SRT internals and want to downgrade to a much smaller turbo(probably a 50 trim, haven't bought another one yet.). I'll be making a log style manifold for it and my question was should I attempt to squish the tee's and the elbows down to match the flange or just weld them up as is? I'm not sure if you can shape them as you could the thinner stainless piping that you would use in a tubular manifold. Thanks for the help.

Back when the Street Source was making manifolds, all of theirs had crushed weld fittings to somewhat match the oval exhaust ports. It would probably be best heating the fitting and then putting it in a vice. Just making sure to brace final version well, and add bracketry where necessary.
I suppose it mostly depends on the quality and thickness of the metal, but many welded manifolds are prone to cracking. My old Street Source manifold began cracking only after about a year and a half. Countless heating/cooling cycles and a massive oscillating weight will crack all but the best metals in no time. Material costs are quite high when building a quality piece.

I put my fittings in a vise and formed them to properly fit around the exhaust port in the flange.

Get on them with the torch and bend/testfit/bend/testfit/bent/testfit....
If you're doing this, then bracing a manifold to keep weight off the welds shouldn't be a problem. I think an issue of modified mag had an S2000 powered s13 in it. They had a brace that held the turbo itself to the top of the valve cover to take weight off the manifold. Something like that shouldn't be too hard to ponder up and would be a very interesting under-hood piece.

You dont need a torch at all.

for sch40, yes you would need a torch, but in reality, you only need sch10 piping.

Thanks for the help, it is schedule 40 pipe, so should I heat it with an oxy torch or will a regular propane one get the job done? I do have both. This will likely be a temporary solution, I just want to get this engine done and running. One more question, does anybody know offhand if you can get undersize SRT rod bearings from the dealer?

oxy torch, i doubt a propaner will do the trick.
