hey all, i'm really excited, just about to graduate! as a gift i got 97 eclipse rs, green, manual, and with only 60k miles!!! i have not even seen the car yet. The best part, no mods at all! i get to mod my car the way i want it!

currently i'm saving my cash for a turbo kit. i was just wondering how much of a decrease should i expect after putting on a turbo? is their going to be a big difference?
i did not see a post concerning gas with turbo.

2nd question. i have done some research about turboing a 420a. I know someday the engine is going to give. 5-8psi is considered the safe zone for a stock engine. (i'm going to keep mine at 5psi) how many years could i get out of a stock engine with 5psi? another question can be: How many years have you put on your 420a turbo?


btw, i have owned an integra and a cherokee, but i'm really excited about my eclipse. hondas are descent cars but having a dsm is 2nd to having your dream girl (jessica alba)! please excuse my newb mentalality!

You'll definetly notice a difference in power, I took my wastegate spring out when I went through inspection just so the car wouldn't build boost when they put it on the rollers (apparently they stopped doing that test anyways so it was all for nothing) but I couldn't believe how much of a turd the car was without boost (only running 5-7psi), I mean it's still not a fast car, but it definetly has more power. You'll even notice being able to pull up hills differently and such.

For your second question, there are absolutely no guarantees on how long your engine will last. Myself and another member (forget his name) turbo'd our cars at about the same time, he spun a bearing in a couple weeks, my car has seen 2+ years and about 20k miles boosted. how about your gas effiecency? non turbo dsm hits around 24/31mpg i think. . . how much did you get now after you have put your turbo on

haha yeah I forgot that's what you were asking about, for some reason I was thinking you asked about INCREASE in power.

Anyways, it depends on your driving style. Drive like a grandma and don't boost and you're not going to see a noticeable difference. I still get like 25mpg in mine untuned with 330 injectors (stock are 235cc) Before swapping injectors I was still getting around 28-29mpg which was pretty close to my average before boost

If you size up your system properly and don't drive like a maniac (like me) you should actually see a small increase in mileage. The turbo helps put wasted heat energy back into work for the engine. If you have an improperly sized setup though, you'll either be boosting a lot (too small) or have too much turbo lag (putting the motor under excessive load to spool). Those will have you using a bit more fuel than normal, and most likely loosing a few pts mpg. On a decent tank, driving *normal*, I'll get around 27, hwy/city mixed. Stock specs are in the info section, 22/33 with manual, 21/31 automatic.

I get about 22 miles to the gallon. I get 350 miles per tank and we have a 15 gallon tank.
