10245, lowering compression, another question about it.... Posted by toykilla, Nov-27-01 03:56 AM
I was looking at the head gaskets to lower compression for my turbo'd GS. I understand the fact that if i lower i must up boost inorder to achieve the same results. BUT what im wondering is if I lowered compression and uped the boost to say...12psi. Would I actually be making more power with the stock compression and 9psi? Id also have the MSD to retard timing of course but just wondering if its worth it before I do a whole engine rebuild in january.

every point(ie 8:1 to 9:1) is about 4-5% hp difffernece if i remember correctly, so that's maybe 1 lb. of boost if that, the question is can you run 12 lbs. with the weak stock pistons.

then again, higher compression responds better to boost, but i still think the 12 psi would outweigh, but then again what do i know ? :)
