What do you guys suggest i do to my motor to run around 14psi? i have researched but everyone has different ideas. i don't have much money but i do have time i was going to get an eBay turbo kit for now but what else do i need? 97 rs

You will at least need forged pistons and rods. I think the best bang for your buck piston/rod combo is the wiseco pistons and eagle h-beam rods. With shipping and everything I think it is around $800.You will want to get new rod/main bearings also. If you don't have much money then just get some 310cc injectors or dsm 450cc injectors and a sfmu. You will have to rewire the injector harness with a resistor pack since they are low impedence injectors. Those are probably your best options since megasquirt has alot larger learning curve and will take longer to understand.

I had someone tell me that it wouldn't hurt to use my stock rods what do you think about that but just to let you know my motor messed up alittle while back i know my rod bearings are shot i might have to get my crank re machined. How much $ am i looking to spend?

I would say nay to that one. While it would work, having the peace of mind that you can throw alot more at forged rods and get away with it would sell me. If you are upgrading the pistons, I would go the extra step and replace the rods too.

How bad are they? Do you have numbers for the rod journals? I believe that I have read that machining is a last resort. Might be better to get another stock crank. Hopefully others will chime in. I know money is a main concern for most, however, spend it to build now rather than having to spend it to repair later. :thumbsup

i haven't drove my car for 2 months yet bills r crazy i am thinking it will cost around 3k or so i dunno if i should buy a built motor and rebuild my stock one anyways but either way my original motors gonna be build no matter what happens.

Well lets see if i can't come up with a ballpark estimate, with ballpark being the keyword.

-Wiseco 8.8:1 pistons $450
-Eagle h-beam rods $310
-ACL rod bearings $50
-ACL main bearings $60

To get my shortblock rebuilt I payed $600. This included disassembly, hot tanked,bore and hone .020 over, balancing the rotating assembly, turning the crank and have my pistons and rods installed.

So a ballpark estimate using what I was charged for and what you have to buy it will be around $1475. It is also impossible for you to do all this without having to buy other things here and there that you have to fix. It is a good idea to buy a new oil pump, water pump, and without a doubt a new timing belt kit. All this will push it towards $2000. If you want to buy a ebay turbo kit thats your choice. There was actually a post not long ago about a member purchasing a t3/t4 60 trim and seeing how reliable they really are.

Oh and your lucky you got ahold of me instead of some other members. Almost all of this stuff you can find easily through the search engine on here. This site is littered with questions just like this. I was in your place before though so thats why a helped out instead of just saying "search". Just keep us informed.

Hey did you do all of your short block work yourself or did you pay to have it done?

I paid to have it done. Fortunately I was working at a machine shop and could be there when it was being done. I don't know exactly what you can be looking at as far as power goes. Every car is the different. I don't know exactly what the horsepower will be, but I would think on 5 psi you would be around 175 whp give or take however many. 10 psi on a sfmu and larger injectors will be somewhere in the range from 220-240 whp. This is based on numbers that other members have posted from dyno's or manufacturers. If you decide to go with megasquirt in the future or anything that can greatly fine tune your engine then you can probably squeeze a little more horsepower than the numbers listed. If your going with larger injectors and a sfmu then you will want to invest in a datalogger and get a wideband a/f gauge no matter what.

Keep a close eye out for a vortech sfmu. Usually there is at least one for sale in the f/s section on here. Get one of those and some 30lb or 32lb injectors. If you want to boost higher then go with some 42lbs or some dsm 450cc injectors with the resistor pack. I highly suggest you upgrade your stock fuel lines to s/s -4an or -6an lines if you go larger than the 32lb injectors, and get a wideband o2 gauge like the aem. Just search on here and there are plenty of threads for this setup and there is alot of stuff in the mod & tech info section at the top of the screen.
