10157, 3000GT BOV Posted by z1pp0, Nov-25-01 03:52 PM
Well i havent been on this board forever, i have been having computer problems and the board has been having problems, and i havent got around to coming back. But i am back with a question, i hope everyone had a good spring break.
I have been having problems with my bov, it *sometimes* lets air out while the car is trying to boost. It sounds funny, you can hear the sound of sucking air and blowing air at the same time, so i took the BOV off the car and took a look at it, i have a few questions. What is the purpose fo the hose going from the top of the BOV to the intake manifold? And are the little arrows on the BOV supposed to line up, or what is there purpose? Any clues to why the BOV works excellent sometimes and other times will release pressure at 2 lbs?
Thanks
Kelly Brunson

Uhhh.. Spring Break in November? What country are YOU in?
I have a suggestion.. Buy a new BOV. The OEM 3000GT valve isn't the greatest. The nipple on the top of the BOV is for the actuator line. It runs to the intake manifold. When you are boosting, it boosts the valvew shut, but when the throttle plate closes, the difference in pressure (boost in the IC pipes, vacuum in the plenum) pushes/pulls the valve open. if the line is not connected, it may very well leak.
I don't know about your arrows, tho. Call HRC.

Thanks for the help. I pulled off the bov and took a look at it but couldnt find anything wrong with it. i did notice that if i blew through the bottom part that it did leak air, but i couldnt find anything else wrong with it and the spring seemed to work fine. I assume it just has a problem. I am gonna ask hahn if they will replace it, if not i will have to purchase a new one. Thanks again for your help Oh yeah and it was thanksgiving....

are all the cars in your pic the same one, or did you take parts from each eclipse to make the end result?

I took parts from two eclipses to make one. there is a black one and a grey one, then there is a picture of them being welded together, then there is a picture of it all put together pre-painte.
