101366, Dynapack dyno run results
Posted by HadesOmega, Aug-28-07 09:18 PM
Well haven't posted here for a while. Anyway my car is running as good as it ever has since I rebuilt me engine for locomp, sniff sniff... I miss my hicomp turbo locomp has so much lag anyway has anyone run their car on a Dynapack dyno or a car that has similar mods to mine. Just wondering if I'm getting the number I should be getting.

here's some basic specs:
Star Kit, T3/T04E
8.8:1 Pistons
3" exhuast
SFMU
30lb injectors 22psi idle pressure
SAFC average -7 for hi
10-11 psi
More details here:
http://www.hadesomega.info/Eclipse.htm

Made:
211.7 HP @5876RPM to the flywheel
210.5 lbft@ 4901RPPM

The dyno is one of those fancy dynoes where you have to take the wheels off and it bolts onto the hub. It supposedly calculates the HP by factoring in your gear ratio, so its like the most accurate dyno. He said manufacturers use this dyno to get their specs O_o'

dude, that dyno doesn't factor your gear. what you see is as good as whp. a dyno can't tell how much power your tranny steals. as far as i know your doing really good. iv'e seen gst's on that dyno putting down 220whp@18psi. is rediculous. of coarse thats stock smic and turbo.

Thats not what he was saying. Most of us dyno in 3rd gear as it is the closest to a 1:1 ratio that we have.

Since when?

3rd gear is 1.36:1
4th gear is 1.03:1

You should be dyno'ing in 4th gear.

Oops is right! I meant the 3rd gear AFTER 1st. :twitch

That dyno does factor in your final gear. How it factors it in I dont know but it does require the final ratio to be inputed into the computer. Either be familier with a tool before you run your mouth or STFU.

Dynapack run last year August 21st

2.0L low comp 8.6:1
Ported head stock cams/valves
Star kit turbo and manifold
3" exhaust from turbo back
no ignition box
MS fuel only

302WHP at 18psi

Hades, If you search I do have the dyno graphs posted. I really dont trust the flywheel numbers because its math based and very subject to user error. WHP is a little more accurate and thats the number I would go with.

dude, don't be hatin? i'm sayin what i've seen. so mr. dyno guy, be nice. and your saying you could even run in 5th gear and get perfectly accurate results? whats the diff in accuracy with this and a dynojet for high hp/ low tq. cars and something that will match hp. for tq.?

well its more accurate because it takes into account your differential and gear ratios. You have to actually input the gear ratio into the computer before you do the run. Yes it was done in 4th gear. Kinda wierd because everyone uses 3rd but the dyno was different. I guess compared to that 18psi run its making some decent power.

Its pretty accurate I'm guessing because some dude had a porsche turbo on it before me and it got roughly the same number as the factory numbers and it was stock O_o'.

anyway here's the graph:

What makes this dyno more accurate....common sense is the fact that there is no tire slippage or ballooning of tires yeilding an inaccurate result.

Why is 5th gear not used....common sense tells you that 5th gear your doing atleast 140mph at 6000rpm. 3rd gear you may be doing 110mph. Why place more wear and tear on the dyno which cost 90,000.00 if you dont need to? Mustang Dyno's cost around 60,000.00 starting (RWD only).

3rd and 4th gear to me seems to be the Tuners preference.

then why not run in first gear and really save the dyno? also, you misunderstood the ? it was, more less, why would a "honda" guy prefer to use a dynojet to a dynapack?

1st gear versus 3rd.....inaccurate reading due to the speed at which the engine would rev. Basically if the engine revs too fast then the dyno doesnt have a chance to really measure the hp and torque accurately. A dyno doesnt just put resistance on a motor and measure how fast it revs.

Why does a honda guy prefer a dynojet....very simple, preference or even misconceptions.

I came upon this thread late, but ALL my dyno runs (3 different dyno's and 3 different styles of dyno's) have been done in 3rd gear.

Terry is correct (Terry you handled your responses with tact and a very calm demeanor. I'm guessing you're not feeling well).

The most accurate dyno can be argued for years, BUT the reason for dyno's is self comparison. Comparison of your previous set-up to the changes/adjustments that you've made. Though I find it kinda fun to compare to others, it's gotta be apples to apples.

My favorite dyno is the dynajet with SAE factoring. I was able to go back to this dyno a month later and come up with almost the exact same number that I had previously (I then tuned my set-up using the safc and cam gear adjustment). I also did a partial tune on a "mustang" dyno and then transfered over to the dynajet with SAE factoring and my base run started off at the same number that I left the Mustang dyno on.

My opinion on the pacs, eh, I'll hold off on :order

Ya'll need to check out the dyno dynamics.

Its load based, so it really doesn't matter what gear you put it in, you can set it to ramp up the same way in 1st gear as it is in 5th gear.

I was helping out with an RX-7 dyno day and normally the shop does there dyno pulls in 3rd gear, and well alot of the guys seem to think that 4th gear is gonna be more accurate or net them more power. So one of the shop workers bet an RX-7 owner the cost of his dyno pull (50bucks) that it didn't make a difference what gear you dyno'd in your still going to come out with true numbers.

Did the 3rd gear pull, and during the 4th gear pull you could pretty much match up the horsepower and torque curves exactly the same (overlapping).

Anyways sorry for the long story.

In the end, I really only like Mustang and Dyno Dynamics. I've worked with the dynapack, and while they are perfect for tuning, I've seen some big horsepower cars break them before.

As for dynojets, well everyone knows about there numbers.

Dyna pacs were never meant to be stronger than other dyno's. Versatility was the objective. Its much easier to work with a Dyno that can be moved anywhere for the cost of a pickup truck. Mustang dynos require you to forfiet an entire bay.
