Poll question: Who installed there STAR or HRC turbo kit by there selves? Without no help at all?

It's easy to install a turbo kit with a nice selection of tools and a few you will probably have to go out and buy... It takes a little time to do it right, but it is well worth in the end, not to mention you will save a shit load of money... and you will know more about your car after you have completed the install and worked out the kinks yourself... You may want to get it running the best you can and take it to a shop to have them look over if you feel better that way, and have them dyno tune the fuel pressure, spark plugs, etc...

I think the only thing I wouldnt do is the over bore. I would put in the pistons and such myself (stage 3+) but its a 0.020 over bore so im not sure about that.

i did mine myself...take your time, majority of the install is common sense.

I did it myself in an apartment parking lot in the middle of summer. I had the car propped up on old text-books for 4 weeks waiting for parts (no jack-stands). I got alot of cuts and headaches, but at least I got a good tan and learned alot.

Are all of you guys professional mechanics or something or you just know little about cars? I'm no pro at this but I know a little about my GS so I should be able to install the Star 2 by myself right?

never done anything like it before, and it was not too hard. the instructions sucked, but the pictures of the turbo install at www.turbogs.com helped a lot. make sure you read the instructions carefully before u start. (eventhough they are really bad, the do help.) read them, look at the pieces you have and it will make sense to u.

yea i put mine in myself too. pretty straight forward, just a lot of work.

ok, just to let everyone know how much $$ they would be saving by putting in in themselves, i would as well classify it as a shitload. in total, i'm paying a shop to custom build a kit that is VERY similar to the star kit. they're building it, installing it, tuning it, EVERYTHING's included. huge intercooler, fuel, etc etc... either way, it was 4500. the only thing is that's w/o tax b/c i had to buy it at a shop and not on the net, so it came to 4800. DAMN. exactly what i said, a shitload. but here's my reasoning so i don't get torn a new asshole - i don't have the tools or the know-how to do it right the first time (i could do it, it sounds easy enough, but i know i'd f*ck up something and have to go back and by another part etc etc, it always happens like that.) basically i didn't want to screw up b/c this is my only car and i only have 1 shot at this to do it right. that and i'm sick of seeing posts like 'i have 1 wire left, where does it go' or whatever. so yeah, it comes w/ all the bell's and wistles t3t4e and a few tial products and custom pipes, but back to the subject at hand...i also don't have the time. IF and only if i had met all these conditions, i would have installed it myself and i know i wouldof had a blast doing it. either way, here's how it approx. breaks down

stage 2 turbo kit 3k+
install 800ish
tuning 500ish

and i know its going to be done right and i'll have a shop to fix it when it happens to not work as planned. and if i don't get 13's out of the box i have already been given permission to kill someone.

(also they're setting up my nitro w/ a small shot to help spool the turbo, so i'm not going to complain).

Installed with a couple of my friends over a weekend....we aren't professional mechanics but we know about cars....the only thing that was pretty hard was taking off the stock parts....the rest was pretty straight forward...plus if you ever have problems just come on here and ask them....cause thats what i did :D

Oh OH Oh me me I did mine as what looks like 7 other peeps from where I'm reading this post. Took my 4 days on and off (going to work and such) probably 2 days of work. Haha most of the time I was looking around for tools in my engine bay that I had misplaced!

Hehe I'm no professionaly mechanic, I did take Auto Tech in high school though, helps a lot if you wanna know how a car worx. Anyway if your good at basic engineering, that is looking at something and figuring out how it worx and you have some experience using tools ie wrench, sockets, hammer, screwdrivers, etc... you do alright. Make sure you have plenty of time for the car to be down and an extra ride just incase you have to go to the autoparts store to get something like an OIL SENSOR socket!

As someone said above, it's a great education, but not exactly a fun day at the beach.

it's not nearly as bad the second time around. You know what to expect. I'm waiting on the third time to get it done in under 10 hours ;-)
