101077, turbo install....it has begun!!! Posted by lild14, Aug-04-07 09:23 AM
my turbo install has begun finally! haha started a couple hours ago, so far we've got the car up on jacks, removed the front bumper, and replaced the fuel pump with a Walbro 255. only modification to the pump bracket was to shorten the rubber hose, other than that it fits fine. taking a short break right now since it is soo freakn hot in the garage. when we get back to it, will be removing the stock FPR and filter and put on the SFMU. depending on how all that goes, we may also go ahead and fit the intercooler. pics will come shortly...most likely after todays work is finished. but just to let everyone else know who hasn't done an install yet, so far its very straight through. i have slight mechanical skills when it comes to cars, my dad has more but thats not saying much. so if you can turb a wrench, you could deffinately attempt this yourself. with the Forums on your side, you have the best instruction manaul you could ever have! ill be checking back shortly! thanks 2gnt!!!

Started her up for the first time after the install....all i can say is SAWEEEET! haha. Running an open down pipe as of now, sounds mean at idle :) Eventually i will put on a full 3" exhaust, but for now and maybe a couple weeks itll be running with it open. Boy today is the happeiest day of my 2gnt life lol
edit: couple more pics

Looks pretty nice, mod list?
What's up with the routing of the wastegate's vacuum line?

It hard to chime in because all the pics look like a work still in progress but I certainly hope you added clamps to the fuel lines on your FMU.

101197, RE: turbo install....it has begun!!! Posted by lild14, Aug-13-07 09:28 AM
Yes i have clamped all the lines. The vacuum hose is from the turbo to the wastegate, best source for the wastegate IMO. The pics were from the work in progress, All is finished now, just waiting on the wideband for final boost, egt and 02 hook ups.
Mod list is in my sig :)

Nice work so far, but if that's the silicone type vacuum hose I'd replace it with the regular black rubber kind, it doesn't look as good but it's thicker/stronger and won't collapse on you after your engine gets hot. I just learned that the hard way.

thanks, ill keep that in mind and will be checking the hoses frequently.

101245, just came back from its first run Posted by lild14, Aug-16-07 03:25 PM
She runs like a dream :) My wastegate is set at 7psi, but lost 1psi with the intercooler so i hit 6psi max. The leanest that my afr hit at WOT with 6psi was 13.0 All the other runs were around 12-12.5 with the stock injectors. So im good with that correct? I know it was only 6psi, but it felt like a completely different car. Im happy :)
edit: no EGT readings yet...ran out of wire haha

You wanna aim for 11.5:1. It's a good feeling though isn't it? What's your fuel setup? FMU? SFMU?

SFMU with the bleed valve mod. yea, i figured it might have been a tad to lean. but yes sir, felt awesome!

I'm assuming you've gone largest disc and dark spring? You shouldn't need the bleed valve for stock injectors. Also where's your idle fp, I remember running mine at about 55psi, I know hahn recommended 47-55.

correct, largest disk and the dark spring. my idle was around 65 i believe. so yea i need to bring that down slightly which ill do later today when i get home. i read maybe use the 2.72 disk and ring instead of the larger disk, but ill see what happens after i get my idle FP down.

ok was monkeying around with the FP...now my guage says im hitting 100 psi at idle and i cant get it lower to save my life. very frustrating, dont know if its my FP guage or what.

did you remember to take the schrader valve outta the test port? If not, there might be a pinch in the return line.
|
101262, RE: just came back from its first run Posted by lild14, Aug-17-07 02:24 PM
yep, valve is out of the test port. no pinch in any lines. might just be the POS summit gauge. the car runs perfect at idle, so im thinking its the gauge.

101272, RE: just came back from its first run Posted by lild14, Aug-18-07 03:33 PM
Thanks, so far everything is great....except for the FP. That was probably my mistake and nothing wrong with the car haha. We shall find out when i get the new filter and FP gauge. happy boosting!

You know that if you run the " boost signal hose" from your wastegate to the extra nipple on your intake manifold that it will compensate and you wont loose the boost and drop to 6 psi. The boost still drops 1 psi however the wastegate will compensate by not opening up until you get the full 7psi Boost in the intake manifold. I gotta do it myself. I will post when I do.
