How safe would it be just to block off the crankcase breather hose?? Basically I need the car to stop leaking soo much oil, where would the oil go if its not going out the crankcase breather?? Would it do more good or bad to block this off? After Christmas im doing a rebuild but its leaking soo much oil now its unheard of.

no, I wouldn't block it off if I were you....but you could put in a oil catch can

no, it has a vaccume under normal usage so i wouldnt block it off....

what could happen if I blocked it off??

Pressure would build up in the valvecover and could blow out the VC gasket and you would lose a lot of oil that way.

Damnit, I was hoping the oil would just flow right back into the oil pan where it came from..why wouldnt it do that? It only makes sense that it will find a way out and eventually go back the way it came.

Still, where would the pressure go? Get a catch can...

I do not want a catch can. If i did I would buy one. The pressure should go through the crankcase ventilation which runs into the intake manifold. i think im gonna try it and ill let you guys know if anything blows up. Im sure most of you would rather block it off than replace a quart of oil every week.

the hose that goes into the intake manifold is the PVC. get a catch can or hook the breather up, or youll be replacing valve cover gaskets ;) (hopefully JUST VC gaskets...)

I know the hose that goes into the intake manifold is the PCV valve which is also the crankcase ventilation. PCV: Positive Crankcase Ventilation. Ill let ya know if I blow up. I think its pointless and that it will work fine sealed up.

it was my understanding that the crankcase ventilation works as a system. the breather works in vacuum...the PCV works in positive pressure (its a one way valve)

i dont think you should do that. everybody is tellin you not to, and warning you of the consequences. i have heard of turbo guys blowing a quart of oil out of their engine. the amount of pressure generated to do that out of the little metal pipe is great. you dont want that pressure pushing up on the valve cover, or do you??

I think I found a solution to oil catchcans and having to put oil back in your car all the time for us 420a turbo'd. I bought a "T" fitting (large one) from auto zone and I connected the crankcase breather to the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV). Right before it the line actually hits the PCV valve I put the "T" in and it works perfectly. That way, all the oil that comes from the breather goes right back into the engine and if your PCV valve is operating correctly it will prevent the oil from entering the intake manifold. As of right now it works like a charm. it still gets vacuum under normal operations and its putting the oil back where it belongs. I love it and glad i thought of it. Ill let you guys know of any problems it may cause, if it does, but i dont think it will. =))

dang your explanation sure is confusing, I read it like 5 times and I still don't get it. So you hooked the breather up to the PCV hose?

Just wondering but can you attack a catch can to the PCV hose? What would you do with the hose connection going to the intake manifold then? I only have a catchcan for the breather hose. You know the one near the battery or ECU.

Hehe you know a way you can put the oil back into your engine with a catch can. Take the lid off and pour it back in, it's distilled oil hehe it's still good :)

Okok I'm sure many peeps do that but here's another way. Get a catchcan and some catchcans have a hole or valve on the bottom to drain the oil. Remember how you made a return like for the turbo to the oil pan? Well do the same thing with the catch can. Drill a hole in the oil pan and attach a hose to it. Haha lotta work but I believe that's how a catch can is suppose to work, as opposed to just letting the oil build up in it and pouring it into the engine again.

Lemme know what's up with the PCV thing k? My intake manifold is black hehe...

You mani is black due to the EGR system. I've blocked off my EGR system and ran both the breather hose and PCV hose to a RRE catch can. So all that enters my mani is fresh air, the way it should be :-)
