100868, how much boost can I run safely? Posted by kevox, Jul-21-07 01:04 PM
Ok so here's the deal: I have a 1997 Talon 420A and am replacing a bunch of parts for performance....then after that I am adding a Hahn stage 2 turbo but I want ot know, given all these mods and a proper break-in period, how much psi can I run safely provided I don't surpass redline at all? I would love to do 12psi daily and 16psi for the odd night...but not if that extra 4psi is going to strain the new engine beyond its limits overtime! I'm still using the stock head too. Here's the list... Crower Stage 2 cams Silver AEM cam gears Topline Rocker Arm Set Topline Lifter Set Stainless Steel valves with a 3-angle valve job done at the local machine shop Unorthodox Racing lightened Underdrive Pulley Wiseco piston set bored .040 over Performance Eagle rods - good up to 800hp! Melling High Volume Oil Pump ACL main bearing set ACL rod bearing set Felpro upper gasket kit Felpro lower gasket kit Prothane Complete Engine Mount kit EGR Blockoff kit New Timing Belt, Serpentine belt, Power Steering belt 200A Iraggi alt (don't think it matters but hey I'm proud of it already lol) OEM Head Bolt set ACT 2100 clutch kit OEM water pump
Is there any way to predict how much psi those parts should take happily once broken in?

what's going to limit you is your fuel setup, what are you planning on doing with that? Oh and you might as well go with ARP head studs while you're at it. You probably want to look into something to control ignition timing also, msd, MSnS...
BTW welcome to the site. Stick around and read a lot and you'll learn more than you ever thought you could from this site.

yeah, what he said. 370cc injectors might get you to 16psi. with a sfmu. if you dont want more than that, you will be fine on the daily.

I love your Alternator...
Is it a direct fit or some fabrication needed? Where did you get it from, If you dont mind me asking?
I believe the Stock is a 75A, With the stereo I have i will need a little more kick. I believe my min would be around 150A...
Thanks in advance, Roman

Oh for fuel I'm going to get the Hahn 500cc injectors along with Hahn's PortFueler system which I believe is a stand-alone fuel management system??? I'm not too sure what it is but Hahn told me over the phone that I had to have that or else I'd run rich 24/7... Any cheaper alternatives? It costs $1300 with the injectors! I also plan to get a 255 Walbro fuel pump...
I donno what the head studs are or do, insight?
And yes the 200A alt is a direct swap built for the car. Unfortunately the guy couldn't build a larger one (I would go with 300A if I could!) but neither can any other HO alt manufacturer so....
The guy I got it from is famous among the car audio forums - Dominick Iraggi. You can email him at dominick@tds.net for quotes and stuff.
PS Sorry about the week late reply...I forgot about this thread:S

Agreed. You need start searching if your going to be buying products and dont even know what they are, like the Hahn PortFueler and not knowing what Head Stunds are.
Just use the Search button for stuff like this and you will have answers on the spot and not have to wait for a reply.
With a build motor, if you can fuel, you can run high boost levels, but you have to know what your doing first.
