100382, Low Fuel Pressure Posted by jshillin, Jun-03-07 12:23 PM
I just installed an stage 2 HRC kit on my '99 GS. I have it up & running, but I can't get my fuel pressure up. I have cranked the center screw in on the Cartech and I can't get my fuel pressure to go above 40psi when idling. I can tell when I try to drive it that I'm not building more pressure because my wideband goes way lean. I have checked and double checked vac leaks and fixed the only one I found. I know that both pumps are running, checked to make sure that there aren't any kinks in the links and I also replaced the fuel filter. I have 270 CC injectors to install, but wanted to get it up & running correctly before I swapped out my stockers. As long as I'm not boosting the car runs fine. I was having trouble getting the car started before, then I swapped out the HRC black box for a missing link and it fired right up. I'm going to reset the computer again tomorrow, but I don't that has anything to do with my fuel pressure. Any ideas on where to go from here??

1 are you using the stock fuel pump? 2 did you remove the stock fuel pressure regulator? 3 why would you need the pressure that high at idle?
if you are using the stock fuel pump it's not going to last that long and i beleave your idle pressure should be about 20 psi then raise with the boost with having 270 cc injectors i don't think the fuel pressure should go above 40 psi anyway also with the fmu make sure you have the right disc spring combo lage disc small hard spring

Yes, the stock fuel pump with the Accel external pump. Yes, the stock fuel pressure regulator was removed. The Hahn Manual says to have between 45-55 psi at idle.
I'm running the cartech SFMU that comes with the HRC kit. Currently, I'm running stock injectors because I don't want to swap them out until I get all of the bugs worked out.

you should have 50psi at idle, styles.
Try pinching off the return line from the SFMU and make sure the pump is trying to deliver higher pressures. Doesnt quite make sense why your pressure is not raising unless the SFMU is bad.
Disclaimer: SFMU is the cartech raising rate regulator....

Thanks, good idea. I'll try that this evening.

I folded the return line in half and squeezed it with my hand, but the pressure barely raised, maybe 1-2 PSI. I don't understand what the deal is. When I first started the car my fuel pressure was over 60psi. I drove the car across the parking lot to warm it up and then my fuel pressure was down to 20psi. When the car got hot enough to kick the fans on, my fuel pressure made it back up to around 40.
Any ideas?? Do you think my SFMU is bad?? Is there such a thing as an easy way to check if it's bad??
Thanks

dont bother. if you only got 42psi from the pump with the return line pinched then the pump is bad. do you have the sfmu between the pumps or after both? you should prolly jus upgrade to a 255hp anyway cause the preesure your gonna need for 8-10psi is more than the stocker can handle. what pressure is the in-line supposed to be capable of?

The SFMU is after both pumps.
Supposed to see up to 100+ PSI at 8lbs of boost. If I can't get this worked out, I'll end up getting the 255.
Thanks

My stock pump wasn't cutting it. I swapped in a high flow 255 yesterday and hit 100psi at idle immediately. I backed it off to 55psi and now I'm in the process of tuning it! Does anyone know off of the top of their head if you turn the knob on the side of the cartech in or out to increase fuel pressure while boosting.
