Well I was finally able to do the compression test on my car...

The results: 210 210 210 210


Which is odd, because I tested last month and got 205 in 2 cylinders, but I guess 5psi isn't a big deal.

My spark plugs looked horrible. They were covered in black soot... fuel. Swapped for new plugs and the car is feeling great again. MAn I'm glad it was just a scare...I can't afford to rebuild the engine right now.

Jeff, those numbers actually seem a bit high. I would maybe take a look at cam timing, or try another compression gauge.

In any case, the engine should be healthy with numbers that consistent.

The tests that I have done in the past have always yielded 210.

When I did the test last spring before installing the turbo, I used a tester that has been known to be very consistent. It read 210 across the board.

I've also tested about 4 or 5 times since then, and have always come up with 210 in at least 2 cylinders. The last time I tested I got 210 in #1 and #4, and 205 in #2 and #3. Maybe I have some buildup on the piston tops.

I use the method that the Rochester DSM members taught me, which seems to be the standard. (Its pretty hard to mess up a compression test).

What numbers are "normal" for the test if 210 is too high?

I got a 165 155 155 155 cylinders 1-4 in that order and i figured mine were too low but with a turbo I want lowered compression so didnt worry about it. =) I also experience a MASSIVE amount of blow-by...i think im just going to plug that crankcase breather up so oil cant escape that way

210 psi across the board is the sign of a healthy engine. Be happy, many people would love to have those numbers.

BTW: Those are the same numbers that I get.
