Sound good, but you seem to have a little bit of compressor surge ?

I dont think so i shouldnt. i have the bov set very lighty so its not closed to tight.. ill have to give that a look. i personally dont like the bov haha sounds to weriod like a turkey caller or something.

dude, i love the turkey sound. what bov is that and yeah, you should check the bov. make sure the line isn't pinching itself when it sucks. i have a hks-ssq and just squeaked w/ the old turbo. with the big 60 its a squeaking turkey.

thats the thing.. it confused me too. there is no vaccuum line hook up on the bov.. thought there was suppose to be.

You have a copy of the greddy, when I first try my turbo setup at 5-6 psi with the real greddy type-s I was getting that turkey sound and just loosen the allen key and it goes away. I was sure that this sound was compressor surge, maybe im wrong. Oh and mine has a vacuum port you can see in the picture.

wow im fucking stupid!! i feel like a complete BANME! haha! i never looked at the back of the damn bov and there it was a hole for the vaccum. it just didnt come with the hose barb lol!! wow.. but the thing is it still sounds like a fucking turkey!! i dont like it i just want a normal bov sound.

My greddy has a whitle sound now but had to loosen it a lot to avoid turkey sound.

So you didn't have a vacuum line hooked up to your BOV at all? The turkey sound you were hearing was probably compressor surge. Hopefully your turbo is alright still. If you have a GReddy Type-S BOV, many people (including myself) take it apart and remove the smaller spring inside of it. It allows for more adjustment with lower boost levels and opens easier. You shouldn't hear anymore turkey-sounding noises like this. If you do, you need to adjust it more. I have one of my springs out and it probably has a 1/2 in. of threads showing above the locking nut still. Go around there and see if you can find the sweet spot for yourself.

Which spring do i remove? the thinner one? or the thicker one? i took out the thinner one and ran with it. its makes a noise like all the air just blows out. its not loud i can barely hear it.. ill take a video later of it.. i might just get a new bov or something. would a 1g eclipse bov bolt up to the star flange?

I thought you had the Type-S, not the RS. I had my cousin's RS on my car for a while and couldn't get it set up good. It would make a turkey-like noise like yours was making in that video. You remove the smaller spring out of the two (the one that fits inside of the other one) and keep the bigger on in there. If you can't hear it when you let off, you need to tighten the allen key on top. It's probably leaking out a little so that's why it doesn't have a clean "blow-off" noise. Just keep messing around with it.

You want sound? TurboXS RFL. Best one out there imo. I had it setup where it would start whistling a little bit at near full boost and then comes the loud shreiking laser ray sound that scares the shit out of everybody. God I miss that car.

were do you get the vaccum source from? when the car is at idle is the blow off valve suppose to be open? and when u get the gas it closes right? never knew what the bov did untill i looked at it haha. let me know

You can tap a vacuum line from off the intake manifold. When you remove the one spring, it will probably stick open when at idle as there isn't as much pushing down on it anymore from the 2 springs.

ok this is really pissing me off! it just does a first tweet and then a silent woosh. i keep adjusting it and does nothing.. could it just be the bov it self? well im running everything vaccum wise right out of were the egr valve hooks up too. right? ill take pics today. have to run to ace real quick.

I have heard the type RS and it can be loud. Maybe cause your only running 4 pounds?
|
100296, RE: Finally Boosted Posted by Dsm98Nt, May-25-07 10:31 AM
probably the reason.. even right now with that spring out if i go open throttle once i hit about 5 lbs the bov cant stay closed so i lose boost. i tightened the allen all the way o well. just wait till i build my other engine then i can crank up the boost

Do those BOV's have a spot for 2 vacuum lines? One above the diaphram and another below it?? If it does happen to, you need the top one to be hooked up to a vacuum source AFTER the throttle body (intake manifold) and the lower one would need to be hooked up to a boost source BEFORE the throttle body (anywhere between the throttle body and turbo).
The top one aids in holding it down while boosting. The bottom one aids in releasing pressure when you slam the throttle shut.
Most have the bottom one built in so there is no lower vacuum port, just figured I'd ask.

The RS BOVs do not have a 2nd port on them like the Type-S' do. Just the one on the top half of it.

I think your BOV is good, your just running too little boost. I had a type RS on my shadow last summer, and while running only 6 lbs during break in the thing was very quiet. As for the woosh sound its because of the missing spring, the wistle comes from the air pushing past the valve. I played around with mine all summer and only used one spring, but like yours it stays open all the time. When I started turning the boost up the woosh got louder and louder, until I put the other spring back in. You should hear what one of them sounds like at 23lbs! Another thing to try is stretching the small spring a lil bit, helped mine out because It wouldn't close at first and I couldn't build boost.

100307, RE: Finally Boosted Posted by jack_of_trades, May-25-07 07:15 PM
You shouldn't have compressor surge at any boost levels (which can be heard)unless the spring tension is too great or it isn't being assisted enough. Something is up and needs to be adjusted.

a friend of mine has a knock off rs on his 1g and if you give just a little gas when parked, you can see it close all the way then open when he lets off. even at 25oo rpms. when at 8psi, it makes a small chirp and moderate splash sound. is the hole that the flange is welded on to opened up to match the flange? just a thought.

Even an uncrushed 1G BOV is slightly open when idling with full vacuum.
