HI, whats up guys ... recently realizing that I am poor and still love my eclipse I find my desire dropping. The reason is no power. A friend of mine is a theorectical and engineering genius and convinced me to go junk yard. So in this spirit I want to know can I modify the stock 420a exhaust manifold for turbo use and if so how. Also I would also like to know if there is a factory turbo with a good internal wastgate (set at 6 - 8 psi) and will fit decently. I need to know because he turboed his 89 four door ford escort (aka shit bucket because it looks like one) and beats almost anything on the road and it has a factory motor to boot. I need to know guys so please help I tried searchin but my question was not truely answered. Thanks and God Bless.

I can't find where I read it, but yes someone on here hooked up a turbo to stock manifold and had it running (I think).

The 14b turbo will bolt using the 2 holes of the stock manifold. Its not the proper way but it will work.

Tell your friend he should theoretically engineer a side job for you so you can make some cash this summer and buy a reliable kit.

Like ^ said, the 14b will bolt up to the factory manifold but only with 2 bolts. You need to modify the wastegate to drop the pressure that it opens at and depending on the year of you car an fcd or missing link. You also need an fmu to raise fuel pressure and...... I am not telling the rest, but there is more. Search and you will find EVERYTHING that you need to know. If you have a particular question or just need something explained a little bit more then ask, people will help. This is a great forum and has a TON of info on it but if you are going to turbo you need to understand alot more stuff than just bolting it on and going.

Thanks I've read those post but I wanted to see about using the factory exhaust manifold because a its cheaper and b it appears the factory manifold has a decent runner design as is and i figure a adapter plate is a lot easier to fab then an exhaust manifold as for the rest I think I can piece it together. For example replacement injectors and fuel pumps can be located at junkyards but fmu's and stuff gotta be bought but I see nothing wrong with junkyardin it. Any more comments welcomed and hoped for.

Well if your looking to use your factory manifold for turbo I remember some guy on automotiveforums.com a few years back doing a write-up saying he would take the 420 manifold and the eclipse turbo manifold and t-25 turbo and make it work by hacking up the two manifolds and then welding it together. Basically he would cut both flanges off and then weld the 420 flange onto the turbo manifold. It doesn't look pretty but I guess it works if your looking for a cheap turbo kit using junkyard parts.

If you do that, the turbo will most likely be hitting the starter.

The runners don't line up too well either.

The 14b will bolt to the bottom of the 420a factory exhaust manifold, only with 2 bolts though.
