100010, Everything installed. Need last minute tips before driving. Posted by kedaigle, May-06-07 01:49 PM
Everything is installed for the turbo set-up and am ready to drive, but nervous as hell. I've unplugged the relays for the ignition and fuel pump and primed the oil lines. Radiator fluid filled. The car fired right up after I plugged the relays back in. I let it run for about ten minutes just to check for leaks and did not rev the motor. It looks fine. Is there anything else that I should do or look for before I take the thing on the road and is there anything that I should be doing on its maiden voyage? Thank you, 2GNT'ers. I've used this site as a guide to turbo'ing my ride and it has given me a tremendous base of knowledge to build upon.

Hey looks good, a bit too much red for me, but I like what you did with the oil line, it's nice and clean. Oh and I see you've got the invisible strut bar also, I love mine it's awesome, lol.
If you checked everything out and seems good, just keep an eye on your gauges the first time you boost. Oh and if you have a fuel pressure gauge test to see if whatever you are using to raise fp (i'm assuming fmu b/c I don't see cartech or sfmu) is doing so by using an air compressor or simply blowing into the vac line you used for your source to fmu

Everything looks good. Congratulations on the install.
You might consider reconfiguring the intake a little; it looks restrictive.

Nothing stand out from the pick except for a lack of FPR and the EVAP delete to blowout valve conversion.
More information about your build would help.

looks good, I like the red, what is holding your battery down?

Pre-turbo, I was driving around without one. Since your inquiry, I went ahead and fabricated one out of a piece of 1/8th aluminum diamond plate.

Nice bracket man, looks professional. It looks like you have only one wire (8 awg maybe?) grounding all those big positive cables? :-o

That does look pretty damn good, it's so simple yet clean, nice :thumbsup

Its looking good man, just keep weeding out all of the little bugs in the setup.
Originally posted by mreigle Also I had that oil breather filter and it worked great until I got boosted. Then it just started spraying oil on the engine. I would suggest an oil catch can. It won't effect the performance but I would hate to see some oil burnt on that throttle body.
I just had to replace my PCV valve, so I bought a new one at Autozone. Sure enough...same issue. So I pull the new pcv valve out and the check ball doesn't even seal up under pressure. So I went to the autoparts store, half of them didn't even seal up when positive air pressure was applied to intake side (I blew in them, which is about 1psi). I found another pcv valve that was of similar size to the factory one and it sealed up great when pressure was applied. No more oil on my firewall :)
If you are boosting less than 10 psi and are spewing oil out of your breather filter, you either have seriously worn piston rings or your pcv valve isn't doing a good enough of a job.
Originally posted by mreigle I hope you have a bypass in that intake jsut in case you hit a puddle.
You can't install a bypass on a turbo setup, the suction is too great.

I will check my PCV valve and make sure it is working properly. I assumed it was because it is new.
I hope no water goes up into that intake.

I'm gonna go with the assumption that it's not the early fuel system, and his rising rate regulator is in the back where it belongs...but what is this talk of EVAP delete to blowout valve conversion :shrug

Do you mean by the tank? I have always read that if you dont have a fuel return line to the engine bay, then one needs to be installed. Is that not so?

How do you have your fuel setup?
I'd move that vacuum line to the WG to the other side of that water pipe. It's silicone yeah, but they still crack, and it will melt if it touches that manifold.
I love these posts btw, I know exactly how excited you are.

I agree with WickedESi about the wastegate vacuum line as mine cracked from the heat of the manifold so I re-routed it around the other way. You don't need that top banjo-bolt on the top of the wastegate either. If I left mine in on my car, the hood wouldn't shut, so I had to remove it. Also, Paul pointed out the intake looks a little restrictive and I agree with him. Do you have a FCD or Missing Link at all with your setup? I couldn't see one in the pic if one was hooked up and noticed it wasn't a 95 from the label on the firewall. Overall, very clean setup and have fun!

12:1 FMU located in rear of car inbetween the stock FPR and fuel tank.

You are absolutely correct. The second time I started the car to let it run, the silicone vacuum hose touched the manifold and melted. It's been replaced with a longer piece that I sheathed with SS braid and is secured safely away from the manifold.

The blowout valve vacuum line melted or the EVAP? Neither one should be near the exaust manifold.

I'll take your advice and move up to 3 inch piping in the near future.
We weren't necessarily saying the piping was too small, just the amount of bends and length before it gets to the compressor could hinder spool up time.

No, his wastegate vacuum line touched the manifold and melted.

When I had my eclipse, I never had to worry about oil coming out of my breather filter and soaking anything, but on my talon, oil does leak out whenever it feels like it, it seems. Not necessarily when I'm boosting hard, but seems to more when I take tight corners and turns on the backroads. I made a catchcan out of a water bottle and works well.

I hope you have a bypass in that intake jsut in case you hit a puddle.

I'm using an FMU 12:1. As a matter of fact, I followed YOUR instructions that I had found in one of your responses to a post. Thanks. I have the FMU vacuum line t'ed off at the back of the manifold using the vacuum fitting on the left hand side of mani.
