I saw some people on here with really good looking painted(I think) interiors? I was wondering if that is really difficult to do? or if anyone has made a writeup on it? I would like to do some small parts of my interior to make it look a bit better for somewhat cheap...thanks

I wouldn't do it. Usually they don't turn out well and look tacky IMO. Everyone I know that has painted their interiors wishes they didn't because of the chipping, scratches, etc.

Hi new guy Im guessing you didnt search please do you will find lots of self-help when you do and you dont have to wait for a answer.

Its not to hard first off sand the panels down a bit to rough up the area. give it a good wash with hot soapy water. then use some acidtone to get off anything left (it will take off some color) Then use a primer it helps to hold the paint on.(i didnt when i did mine but ill repaint in a few months) do 2 to 4 coats of rattle can for plastic use (home depot lowes ect ect) spray on some clear let dry and call it a day.

This is something that if your going to dedicate yourself to doing...PLEASE for the love of god do it right.

Have them professionally done. I prepped all my panels and had them painted with automotive paint and clear. That way they can add the correct amount of flex additives to the paint so some that bend (ski jumper panels) will not crack and will look as good as your exterior. Looks 10 times better and lasts a lot longer. I had my interior fully painted for like 5 years while I was in the show scene.

I got out of that and started getting more into the full on race aspect of our cars. Don't get me wrong...our cars can still be tastfully done as a show car.

So do it right...you'll thank yourself for it later.

Prep it by cleaning it right with soap and water. Than put on gloves and acetone everything, make sure there are no oils from your hands on the surface. Too much acetone will melt away the plastic. Let dry.

Then, get matte black interior paint. JUST matte black. I did it to another 2g, and it came out looking as good as my stock black interior panels. I was impressed if I do say so myself.

use prep-all(wax and grease remover) from an autoparts store. its better than acetone cause it won't hurt plastic parts.

SEM plastic/interior paint i heard works awesome.

I've had good results with the krylon fusion paint

anything out of the spray can isnt gonna hold up in the long run . sem will hold up longer than the rest .

SEM Interior paint(flexible color coat) and a shit load of prep.

Satin black(15243) is almost a perfect match to the factory black panels.

Here's what I did.

1. Washed all panels with soap(dawn) and water
2. let dry
3. Rubbed Panels down with rubbing alcohol to remove any left over residues
4. let dry
5. Sprayed on SEM Sand Free (Adhesion Promotor)
6. Spray real light coats of color and let it dry between each coat. I think i did 4 light coats before it was acceptable to me.
7. let the color coat dry for awhile 1hr+
6. Sprayed light coats of low luster clear. I did 2 light coats.
7. I let all this dry over night before I put the panels back in.

Hey Sd your interior looks really nice. I painted mine with krylon fusion glossy black a few months ago and now I regret doing it. The glossy black makes the interior look really cheap. When the weather gets nice out again i'm gonna have to redo everything using your write-up.

I did mine a few years ago when I was into body kits and wings and all that silly stuff.

Yea Yea. I know. The blue and the green don't go together and the green is just too damn much. Like I said. It was cool a few years ago when I was young and stupid. And the whole thing used to be blue but I did what any teenager with ADD would do and rushed through and it looked like shit. Then I changed everything to green and I never changed the little switch on the dash and the seat covers. It looked good with all the green and purple neons I had.
In retrospect it was pretty dumb. But oh well. You live and you learn.
