I highly recommend this to everyone with an CAI system to by AEM's Bypass Valve it does work and on my INJEN system.

Yup looks like a 420a... in other news: You would only REALLY need the bypass valve if you completely submerged your filter underwater and would possibly need to have the throttle significantly open. Even over puddles, I put my car in Neutral, let my foot off and coast through. Other than that, the bypass valve just defeats the purpose of a CAI. I trust prevention more than a little device to keep me from hydrolocking.

You need some engine degreaser buddy.

im thinking a bypass valve intended to prevent water consuption would be better used on an intake with the filter closer to the ground.

Drr, this is the right spot for this when anyone buys the AEM bypass valve states it in the instructions that came with it.

You must have a Short Ram intake on DSM, you should read up on CORRECT Location of AEM Bypass VaLve.

I 've read and looked at pictures of Bypass valve in action etc. Its better to be safe than sorry.

Water will still go up threw CAI, even driving thru the rain from the road not completely submerged. I've done tested this out before I my Bypass valve on. The Fiter cone was all wet and thats why put this Valve on it.

Anyway, yo like it or you don't thats your opinion. Same goes for Some Prefer Short air intakes and some prefer cold air. LOL

My car was a 95, is salvaged and was sitting in a junk yard for I dont know how many years, and the engine wasnt that dirty... :shrugh no offense.

I already knew, this I bought two cans when I first bought my car. I've also, asked how to clean it up in another thread.

My main concern is around the valve cover, the rest is later.

Think someone should post pics of the engine, with the components covered up, as a Write Up to show how to degreas/ clean our engine bays. This would solve alot of headaches...

I dont cover anything up, There isnt much you can really do to stop water getting anywhere. I do however have my compressors filled ready to blow the water out of the spark plug wells ect.

Get the motor warm and shut it off. Spray it down with cleaner and wait a few secs then hose her down. I never just hose the ECU down, water cant hurt it but i dont do it to lessen any water getting into the connector.

Same here. I have never bagged or covered anything up, and I have my own pressure washer that I use regularly on all my vehicles. Just don't sit there and hold the pressure washer nozzle in a spark plug well or up against a sensor or something retarded like that.

And if you need a write-up with pictures on how to wrap a baggie around your intake filter then perhaps you are better off taking the car to a detail shop or have a professional detailer come out and do it for ya. This is not rocket science here.

I'm not cleaning it with the cover thats retared and No, I won't take my Dsm to a detail shop. I worked for shop before so I knew somewhat about engine cleaning but the guys I worked for where dumbasses and messed up a few cars, by detailing the engines, so I quit from what I saw them do because I didn't them to put the blame on me. Other, than this the owner does great body detailing.

FYI: AEM bypass valve is garbage...just use common sense when driving. I bought my bro an aem cold-air w/bypass valve as a bday present for his teg, and if it wasn't for him being smart and getting off the gas, he almost hydrolocked even with that piece of junk installed. Anywho, where do u live at, and why do u need a "cold-air" intake y0?

I live in Ohio,and prefer it over short ram, becuase they don't come with a heat shield,only FUJITA's do and I've heard you get more power from a CAI system. Magazines and from what I've read here. They don't lie and besides my Injen CAI system I also use Redlines WATER WETTER too and this does help alot by keeping the temps. Also, Lucas Oil stuff.

I recommend everyone from Turbo and Non turbo should use Water Wetter and Lucas Oil. Both products are approving to work by people who drive on road couses in SCCA,NASA.

Plus, Ohio rains like a mofo Flooding, and I don't have my fucking up on me either, this is my only car. Its good to have it on just in case. I don't believe that, by letting off your foot would prevent it to Hydrolock. I drove thru, a bigass Flood with my Cutlass Ciera, it pretty floated thru. it LOL. But it ran like shit few days later, glad I sold it it was a f'n money pit. By, they 2gnt DSMER's if youo guys live in MICHIGAN, I STRONGLY recommend you guys to buy Bypass Valve, I grew up ther and I know how the weather is shitty and worst place to live during winter, LOL I would walk two miles to school, with snow pass my ass. Lmao

A CAI with that bypass valve will produce similar results powerwise compared to just a "short-ram" intake. I used to have a couple "cold-air" intakes when I was non-turbo and eventually switched it over to a short-ram as I didn't see ANY difference powerwise and it was safer to stay short-ram.

Why not? By letting off the gas, the throttle plate shuts which stocks sucking through the intake which would let the water drain back out if it got into it. It's still possible to hydrolock by letting off the gas through a puddle, but it's better than keeping your foot on the gas.

When I lived it texas, it would rain and flood constantly here, more than the midwest (where I live now). That is when I decided 1-2 hp difference isn't worth replacing my engine over.

After I put my new front clip on with ViS hood, I'm sitching to short-ram, my Filter gets dirty, too much. Only down fall for owning a CAI, so I might go with Injen SR but would look into Fujita's it comes with heat sheild carrying bag and hat.

Gotta love the freebies, fellas.

I gotta have heat shield, with my SR intake, direct heat away from the filter.

Do, you all like the K-N Air Breather filter, what do yo use to plug the breather on a Short Ram intake or CAI systems.

250 for the Injen RD CAI system, 39.99 for the AEM bypass valve from Summitracing they have them in stock.

I bought my Injen from a shop thru PROMOTIONS they only deal with SHops not residential you / or me.....

Check ebay for the Injen CAI you could find one cheaper or ask here or places on the web. I love my Injen. its a head turner.

But, be careful on the throttle cops would pull you over for going too fast and they'll be jealous.

I should've said my car turns heads, 3 to 10 hp not sure though. But, my CAI has open my engine up.

Have you guys drove your car with the CAI on when its raining or snow.
I have notice my CAI gets dirtier alot, love the sound of it.

Which might be wanting to make the switch to an INJEN SR.
You still no power lost with the bypass valve, LOL I get a wow when someone sees my CAI/ bypass.

All I ever noticed with either a CAI or SR intake was just a bit better fuel mileage and a throatier sound at WOT, actual power I never felt until I got rid of the supre restrictive muffler.

When i installed my AEM CAI, i noticed a very, very slight change in the higher power band. But, i realy noticed it when i installed headers, and cat-back exhaust. Now she sounds sweet, i get that swooshing sound from 3500-7000 RPMS. That has turned many heads. As for the bypass valve...i think its not worth the money, even if it is $40. Just my .2

Same here, but it gets dirty alot, which I might buy a SR tire Rack has them for 120,not bad.

Does anyone know a daeler for the Fujita SR intakes. Heard they come with a heat shield. I prefer to buy a SR with heat shield or might build my own from corbin's write up.

My interior pics are up, its bone stock.

I refuse to ever pay more than 30-50 bones for an intake.


They look cool and sound good but aren't that much better than the stock airbox with a hi-flow drop-in filter......

I got a short ram from a friend for free. Needs to be cut a bit and needs an extra bung welded/torched shut but it will work and it was FREE. All i need to do is waste money on some clamps, some silicone couplers and a filter and i'm set.....lol.


Back in highschool, atleast 6 of my friends hydrolocked their motor because they thought cold air intakes were the shit.
