Febuary, I bought a Oem ViS CF hood :thumbsup from insurance claim. A 70 yr old lady clipped my front right side.

So, I'm looking and asking you guys if there is a write up with photos. How to DIY install them on myself.

I have the tools to do it, so I'm covered there.


I haven't found a write up nor from anyones post ?

Line it up with where there's places the bottom portion of the pins.

Drill.

Install.

Also depends on what pins you have.

How about on underneath of my CF hood. There's two round areas on both sides of the hood. Would this be my guide to drill thru hood.

As for the pins, was thinking about Pilot's CF locking pins $35 at Jc whitney.

This would be my install with hood pins.

The pins should lock into the frame. Would there need to be more drilling on both sides of radiator.

You have a very clean well built DSM.. :thumbsup

I don't have a wonderful picture of where my pins are, but I do have one I'll post. First, decide where you want to put the pins. Some people have put them near the very edge of the hood, others more towards the middle. Mine are more towards the middle, right behind the headlights. Measure it out make sure it's even on both sides, drill your holes. Now install the hood and get it aligned properly. Once that's done, put the hood up and install the actual pin part on the car in the holes you drilled, then use something like vaseline or whiteout and put it on the head of the pins. Close the hood down onto the pins and now you've got your spots to drill marked. remove hood and drill out the holes. Start small and gradually work your way up. I drilled probably about a 1" diameter hole in the underside of the hood before even going into the top layer and after I did that I marked again on the top layer where the pins hit so I knew where to drill Put masking tape on the carbon fiber part of the hood to prevent cracks in the clear coat. I can't remember which way was best to drill from to reduce the cracks, I know one side I went from the top the other I went from the bottom, but sorry don't remember which turned out better. After I got the holes drilled to about the size of the pin, I used a file to widen the hole for the head of the pins and just filed till they fit through the hood. Now install the second part of the pin that goes on the hood, this is fairly easy. Line it up and use tape to hold it in place (trust me I didn't do this and it took some playing with to get my hood to open and I had to file some more. You may want to tape them in place then make sure you can open your hood) Ok with them in place drill the 3 small holes for each one and then install the rivets and you are done.


As for pins definetly buy a good set, I got the cheapo ebay ones and the part that locks it rusted up on me in a matter of months. I'm pissed about that b/c now I gotta try and sand the rust off and then put some clear coat on to keep it from happening again.


Here's a picture where you can see where my hood pins are. They're kinda hard to see, but they are in the bottom corners. Follow the hood prop and you'll see both of them (or some of both of them)

Nice, setup. bro. Is that an Hahn 16g turbo kit , your front mount intercooler looks like, theirs abit. Wow, you're Stillen front bumper looks awesome too! Its a dent resistent,model.

Your bottom picture, DSM and Evo is cool.
They look like they're ready to take on the big blocks. :thumbsup

Thanks, its not a hahn kit, it's a star kit (note the turbo off center and the external wastegate as well as the really small core size of the intercooler)

The stillen is polyurethane and holds up very well, but I drilled a curb and ruined it a good deal on the one side :(

The Evo can take on some big boys, but the eclipse is still a ways off.

Yup, that looks like my hood on that green Talon.

locking hood pins suck... i had em for my dsm and traded em for sparcos....

use paint or PBJ to line up the drilling points.. (install the bolts first, then place hood on top of the bolts, the pbj/paint will come off and leave mark where you need to drill)

i placed my pins on the in a diff place than i nthe pix posted...

closer to the front of the car, and closer to the middle.. there are 2 rubber deals about 10 inches away from both sides of the latch... i yanked those and put the bolts there (w/some beefy washers)..

Yeah, some around where I live are too nosey and have sticky fingers.

Another question, do all hood pins non locking & locking RUST. Because, I've seen a nice carbon fiber Hd pins in JcWhitney.

mine never rusted (sparco)... they are anodized i think...

If they're anodized then they ar aluminum or some other alloy, alloys don't rust, iron or steel rusts

Fuckin cheap ebay pins. Mine are all rusted, now I gotta sand it the best I can and spray some clear on it to hopefully keep it from happening again. Wish I woulda spent the money on quality pins.
