97988, LED CRAZY Posted by TheGhost, Feb-27-07 07:53 AM
Hey peepz,
I just replaced all my taillight bulbs with L.E.D.S. and am happy with the results but my lights flash really fast. I found an L.E.D. kit from autozone that is supposed to kill the problem and return all to normal the problem is I don't know which lines to connect. I need help so please respond.

I've never used one of those, but I believe the kit is essentially just a properly sized resistor. I think the blinker box flashes quickly when the brake/blinker wiring does not have the correct resistance (the gray wire with a blue stripe). I'd put the resistor in line with that, and test.
If I'm wrong, the 2nd thing I would do is to put the resistor in line with the green wire (the markers wire) and test.

You don't give us much details on what you bought but if it is a couple of ballast resistors, used to simulate the current loading of the bulbs you just replaced, then you wire them across the brake light circuit. One goes on each side from the brake/turn + wire to ground. They install in parallel with the LED bulbs, NOT in series.
If you want to control the blinking another way you can try this but you need a little knowledge of electronic to follow why this mod works. Attempt it at your own risk.

Thank you! I was thinking of doing euros and painting them to be solid red, but I think I like that MUCH better

This would be a wonderful thing for azdave to respond too for a more technical answer, but I'll post a link to his blinker mod.

Dave I hope you don't mind me posting this.
Edit: Darn you beat me too it.

I don't mind at all.
I can add that many people who don't know Eclipses will recommend a "no load" flasher like I have pictures of in the link above. Due to the nature of the blinker module in our cars you can't use these in our vehicles.
You have three choices: Use the original bulbs as a ballast resistor, use a purchased ballast resistor or mod the blinker module.
Beware of the first two items as they can generate a lot of heat so don't mount them near anything that will melt.

Those leds look nice. You wouldn't happen to have a night time pic would you?

Seeing my LED talilights in a photo, day or night, is not even close to how good they look in person. The camera does not capture the real look.
Here is an old video of the lights when it only displayed two or three patterns. At the very end of the video you'll see a nice night time display.

Here is the most recent display video with the dash display too.
